Installing Silverstar bulbs on 02 Dodge Intrepid SE

Alright, I done the Seafoam last night and worked great. I am interested in a How-To for installing Silverstar bulbs for my 2002 Dodge Intrepid SE. If anyone has the how-to handy or the link I would appreciate it and this thread could be deleted of course. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I've searched but not come up with what I'm looking for so sorry in advance if it does exists but I'm just not finding it.

Same as replacing normal lamp. Unscrew the two long jackbolts attaching the headlight, and remove them. Rotate the retainer, and pull the lamp connector out. Change out the bulbs, taking care to not touch the surface of the bulb with your fingers (use surgical gloves). Replace headlamp, jackbolts and screw into place. 10 minute job for all 4 lamps.

First, you spend 5x the price of standard bulbs.

Then you put the new bulbs in the same way the old ones came out.

Repeat as necessary, some do it 3x per year as Silverstars are rated at 1/3-1/2 the lifetime (hours) of standard bulbs.

Pretty soon you've spent as much as a HID kit would have cost in the first place.

I'd highly recommend HIR bulbs before anyone considers the overprices, under-performing Silverstars. HIR bulbs have the same lifespan (if not more) than normal halogens, and produces 1700 lumens Low, 2500 high. The lows (9006 equivlent with minor mod) are sold at almost all John Deere dealers.

Next best would be the high / ultra-high efficiency halogens, such as Nighthawk, Xtravision, Phillips Vision Plus.

Silverstars are simply ultra-high efficiency bulbs coated with blue tint. You get low efficiency bulb brightness but ultra-high efficiency bulb life. Go figure.

I think I must be an exception to the "silverstars burn out every 4 months" rule. The silverstars that are in my car now have been in it since I got it in October 2005. That would be 18 months by my calculations!

I was looking on the sylvania website, and it recommends changing any halogen light every year, because of reduced brightness. Do your seem dimmer to you? I'm fairly certain the OEM ones in mt 04 are dimmer than the ones that came with my black diamonds, but I don't know what those actually are. Could be age, could be brand. Dunno..

Yeah, there is no way they are as bright as they were new, but they are still brighter/whiter than OEM. I'm just gonna wait for them to burn out to replace them. I'm thinking about getting PIAA's or the silverstar ultra's for my next set.

Well, "month" is not the best way to rate your light bulbs. If you don't use your headlights then obviously they would last a lifetime!

When we say that SS have a short life, we're quoting directly from the hour ratings on the Sylvania website (atleast the info used to be there). Some dual filament bulbs, such as 9007, have rated life in the tens of hours range (50 or 60 on high beam).

The HIRs I mentioned have 800 hr quoted life.

Hmm, good points guys. Something to think about. Yes, I've read some have a short life span to the SS bulbs but some don't and the guys that had a short life span to their bulbs would obviously be the ones who would recommend going on and spending the extra cash to get HID's because they probable spent more on those than they planned so would make alot of since to me. Something to think about. I don't do that much driving at night but I will be here soon. Will be getting a second job and it's on third shift so, about a 25 minute drive accross the interstates to get home. To the guy from Smyrna - "Well, I wont be living in Nashville much longer. Moving to Chicago in December! Yay! Very excited about the move!" Good stuff guys.

why would you wanna move from TN to shitcago? i live in green bay and i hate driving in the snow (but i love snowmobiling) good luck on the move, if you ever wanna visit green bay hit me up we can terrorize the town!
