So i have these LED's, an idea and questions

Thanks to the department of transportation, there was/is a recall on Infiniti FX's due to the tail lights being too bright. So in the garbage at work the other day ( I work at an Infiniti dealership) i find all these taillamp assembly's, full of LED's, then my brain got to working.

The curvature of the LED housing is about the same as the curvature on the Trep taillights... you know whats coming.

So i bought some home...

And canibalized them...

Here you can see the curvature..

Questions;

1. Has anybody disassembled a tail light housing before and how?

2. Do i need to get a resistor thingamajig to make the LED's work, or will a direct 12v source do the trick?

No matter how hot she is, someone, somewhere, is sick of her shit....

I don't know how those are setup. They may have a resistor as part of them or it may be somewhere else. Scarface opened a set of taillights, but it's nearly impossible to do without damaging the outer part of the light. I've been trying for a while. BTW, you've got to hook me up with some of those!

You'll need a resistor then. How are they wired? It looks like a series parallel combination but I can't tell how many LEDS are in each branch.

WooHoo!! What's the chance of me getting on the list for a pair? I'll more than compensate you for the shipping! Keep me in mind.

Is there a certain specification of resistor i would need?

hey.. put me down for 2 pair.. *for when i blow up the 1st pair*

i'd like the whole assembly thou..

the real trick won't be getting the led's mounted, it will be the voltage trick thats built into the infinity..

standard bulbs use 2 filaments one bright and one dim.. *running lights and brakes*

the infinity, I assume, just varies the voltage to the line that supplys these suckers, thus creating the dim/bright effect.

We'd need a circuit built that does that..

I was thinking that i could use one of the existing lights, probably the smaller one as a tail lamp, and then just use the LED's for the stop lamp.
