Xbox in the back? Need help!

Hey everybody. I am just about to finish modding an XBOX and my ultimate goal is to put it in my car somewhere. I'd like to have it somewhere convenient enough to turn on and off with ease, but I dont want it just sitting out on the floor board or something.
I'm not sure what's under it, but my ideal place would be to cut an area out here and mount in plexiglass or something like that.

I know there are the car seat bracket things here, so I don't know what it looks like underneath the cloth and if there is even room to mount it here. Any advice of ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

It's a solid piece of sheet metal underneath there, with cutouts for the speakers. Directly below your arrow is where the trunk light is mounted.

Sorry to hijack, but what year is your car? The child seat anchors are much nicer than mine and since I broke one anyway, I'd like to replace them with the ones you have.

Okay....would it be possible to cut out the room to place an xbox in there??
Mine is a 01 SE. I'd never use the anchors, so if I can get this project happening, I'd be more than happy to give you them. I just need some advice on how to do this.

I think your best bet would be to take the carpeted cover off first and get a look at what's underneath. From there, you'll have an idea of what you're looking at and you can come up with a gameplan.

I guess those anchors started in 01. They're much nicer than the ones I have. Do you also have a shoulder belt in the center?

Mine is a 2000 R/T. Apparently they introduced those changes in '01. I'll have to look into getting one of those because the lap belt makes an indentation in my leather if my backpack falls over on it. lol

To remove that panel you'll need to take your back seat out. To do this, first you need to pull up on the bottom seat. It just clips into the floor and by pulling the ends straight up, it will pop out and you can pull it out. Then, you need to remove the nuts on the bottom of the seat back. I know newer intrepids have child seat anchors at the bottom. I'm not sure what year they were introduced, but I'm thinking it was in '01 when they changed the other anchors and the shoulder belt. Anyway, I believe these will make it 4 nuts on the bottom instead of 2. I'm not sure if they're the same size as the other, but the 2 I have in my car are 18mm. Once you get all the nuts off, you pull out on the bottom of the seat to lift the brackets off the studs. Then, just lift it straight up to disengage the hooks on the top. You'll have few plastic clips where the seat covered the edge of the rear deck. Pull those out, remove the anchors in the deck, pull off the c-pillar trim on the sides, and pull that carpeted cover straight back.

It sounds like a pain at first, but after you've done it it isn't that bad.

For security reasons, especially since there's no tint on your back window, you might be better off fabbing up a bracket in the trunk, mounting the system there, and running the power through a switch mounted up front. Doesn't look like you have the 60/40 split, otherwise that would still leave you easy access if you needed to get to it. That and i'm not sure what the CA sun will do that that plastic. Have a feeling the XBOX casing isn't designed to be real UV-stable.

Well I actually have a limo tint on all of the back windows. Its nearly impossible to look into it. I think you're probably right about putting it in the trunk. I was thinking about that. Couple of questions arise though:
1) Where could I find a switch that would turn the Xbox on/off without having to open the trunk and manually turn it on?
2) With it being that far away, I'd have to us wireless controlers. Would they work through the seat and trunk?

You mentioned a 60/40 split....what's that??
Another great point about the sun. Probably wouldnt be too friendly to the system.

60/40 split is bascially just like your front seats (unless you have bench seats). It's possible to switch it on and off from the driver seat.....there have been posters here (I think Intrep_ED is one of them) who have put a switch to their amp, so the same can be done for an X-box. You could always mount the Xbox on the back of one of your rear seats if you aren't using that.

Yeah I think my back seats are the bench ones. They don't fold down or anything.
I'll have to send him a PM to see if he can't help me out with that switch thing.
mounting to the back seat is a really good idea if I can rig a switch to work. Thanks again for your help man.

Putting a switch foran amp is totally different that a switch for an xbox. The amp you just connect one side of it to 12v and hook the other side up to the amp.

I don't know if you can easily add a remote switch to an xbox. It's been a long time since I had one open, but I'm pretty sure it's some type of momentary contact switch. If it's jsut a simple momentary pushbutton switch, then you would be able to mount one up front. My favorite setup is hiding the system somehwere and mounting the controller ports, power switch(complete with ring of light, of course), and DVD drive up in the dash or the console.

From experience i would not put it where you are asking as it will be stolen. when they broke into my car the went from front to back. folded down the seats and took all that was there might be a better idea to hide it behind the carpet in the trunk and hid the wires to that way atleast that will not be stolen.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. wouldn't want to put in all that work just to get it stolen.
Is it possible to mount it somewhere near the front of the car (like near the glove box)??
You said they folded your seats down.... My back seats don't fold down. What year/model did they make that? Thats my biggest complaint about my car is that the rear seats dont have access to the trunk.
