Happy Birthday to my Intrepid ES

Happy 9th Birthday to my Intrepid ES
aka "The Winter Beater"

2000 Dodge Intrepid ES - - - Built December 14th, 1999

Here it is at the dealership where I bought it in October of 2007...

The silver one beside it had come from the same company in Pennsylvania, but its driver hadn't been too gentle on it. It was full of rock chips and scratches and scrapes. The blue one was near mint though!

And last winter after returning from my aunt's on Easter. Roads were wet and sloppy with freezing temperatures. The car drove so well on the bad roads, I had no idea it looked like that until I got home!

Coated in ice in the driveway after freezing rain the night before...

Where it spent most of the summer...

Back on the road in October. Some pics after its bath...

Visiting the R/T at my grandparents' house...

And as she sits today... (dang snow)

Just rolled 109,000 miles. Almost fully loaded from factory (everything but Traction Control). Completely stock except for Sylvannia SilverStar high and low beams and the 2002+ style wheels I used to have on the silver car.

Thanks for looking!

Thumbs down 10 years

Nice pictures of your ES

I ordered my '99 ES in February, 1999 and it was delivered 4 weeks later. Now at 135,000 miles.

Hmm, that is strange! I think you're gonna beat me to the next mileage interval though because I only put about 4,000 miles on it a year.

I would have loved to have ordered my Intrepid from the factory and to have been the original owner!

Have either of you changed your timing belt, water pump, etc? I'm trying to get the money together to get mine done asap.

It came with this at the top of the window sticker: Manufactured by DaimlerChrysler for (My Wife's name).

Yes, mine were changed about 100,000 miles. I think it cost about $600. That was a few years ago.

That is too cool! I'd love a personalized window sticker, but I'd settle for just the window sticker. Original owner lost it, as they usually do!

My local dealer quoted me $215 for labor and about $550 in parts. I'll probably have enough in the next few weeks to get it done. Gotta take care of my ride...

Thanks!

The sunroof does have its drawbacks, though. A lot of heat seems to escape through the glass when it's really cold out. And it's not really that useable when everything is covered in ice! :( Dang winter...

By all means, take care of it. These 3.2/3.5s have turned out to be very good engines. I guess that's why they are still being used in 300s and Chargers.

Hi guys. As you can see, I also have a '99 ES. I think it's a few months before she hits 10 years old. I only have 78k miles on mine, and I love it! Mine is white, as you can see, with black leather and the 3.2L engine. All the goodies except the sunroof, but that sure would be nice. My wife's Grand Cherokee has one, and I enjoy it.

If you are looking for the window sticker, the next-best thing came from another thread in this forum. Check it out: https://www.dodgeintrepid.net/forums/t130264/

I assume I can wait a bit on the timing belt, but I've always wondered if it was related to age as well. What if you had a 10+ year old Trep with 30k miles. Can you wait to 100k regardless of the age?

The 3.5 in the LX's is the same as the one used in the LH's?

2011 Update

The '99 ES has become my son's college car. He has less time and money to care for it than I. But it still runs good, now at 163,000 miles. The driver's seat is about to be reupholstered (with vinyl rather than the much more expensive leather).

I noticed some of the clear coat is coming off the trunk lid.

He and I changed the upper and lower radiator hoses last weekend (the upper had sprung a leak). For anybody who has done that job: getting the lower hose off the engine side is pain.

The 2.7 engines are still being used in Chargers and 300s and were being used in Magnums.
