I've had the cluster both ways.
Here's a pic of my original cluster with some chrome rings epoxyed on:
Just snap the rings off a cluster at the yard. The tach and speedo fit perfectly, but the gas and t-stat do not, they sit up a little higher. If you look real close at the fuel gauge you can see the gap at this angle. From the drivers seat it looks great. I really liked the white gauges with chrome.
I picked up the concorde cluster from the yard and threw it in, and ended up really liking it, so I never took it back out. Those clusters come with the chrome rings. Plus no gap.
As far as a full detail here's what I would recommend:
Buff complete car with Mequires ultimate compound
One coat Meguires Cleaner wax
One coat Meguires NXT wax
I try to do the Clay bar once a year, if you live in the city where it's grimy I would do it twice a year. The ultimate compound should be used realitively sparingly, but it's not that aggressive so its great for taking out some scratches and swirls and getting the old wax off. I use a orbital buffer to do a quick polish and then put the wax on by hand.
You just gave me the itch to go completely detail the car. It needs to warm up!!!
