Micholob's SE 3.5 conversion progress thread

This has been a work in progress for the last few weeks.

The car is a 'plain Jane' 2001 Champagne SE with a bad knock on cylinder #6.
It was picked up in downtown Des Moines for $250.

The donor engine is a 3.5HO that once was in a 2001 300m that belonged to my older brother. It was in an accident last winter and was parted out.

The tear-down

Engine bay ready to accept the 3.5L. All conversions done (ps lines, ac lines, trans dipstick, ps reservoir, exhaust pipes)

Once the motor is in and deemed road-worthy I will start adding a few other 'extras' from the 300m. The wheels have already been mounted out of necessity.

2001 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.2L 156k
2001 Chrysler 300m 114k (parts car)
2002 Chrysler 300m Special (project car)

Yeup, not my favorite color by far! The roof needs some help. It's faded and chipping away, the rest of the body is clean. If it wasn't so cheap I would have passed on it.

Not a priority right now. I might attempt to paint it myself if I get ambitious.

Btw, nice to see you back, Cean!
Did you watch the dude yet?!

You're out of your league, Donny.

Only seen it twice - but will be watching it more of course - heck, might take another 'roll' tonight since it isn't Shabbos.

I finally got back to work on it again today and made a lot of progress

Things left to do:

Bolt up exhaust (needed another set of hands)
Install AC compressor (need to find those pesky bolts)
Install rad and fill with coolant
Button up whatever vacuum lines, wires and heater lines still undone
Install air intake duct-work
Put the bumper, hood and the like back on

Once it's running it till be due for a complete brake job.

I could not get the starter shim in with the motor mount already in. I decided to try leaving it out. We will see what happens.

The cart is nothing fancy, just a Harbor Freight special.

In case anyone is seriously in need I checked and they are on sale for 74.99 and with a 20% off coupon would make it 59.99 pre tax. I think that's about what I gave for it a couple years ago. It's pretty handy. Of course, like most everything I buy from there it was missing a piece or two.

Update

It's alive. I'm lacking the throttle cable. I should've read the manual a little closer. I will have to make another trip to the yard. Being that tomorrow is Mother's Day it will likely have to wait until next weekend. The hood and bumper is on. I will get the rest back on after a quick pause for the cause.
