After being with AT&T Wireless and with Voicestream, I decided to go with a local carrier here for what I need. It's a prepaid plan, but unlike other prepaid plans, they don't rape you. I get unlimited minutes to the state of Iowa (where I live) and some parts of Illinois. I don't have roaming outside of the aforementioned area, nor long distance outside of the area. But, for long distance, all I have to do is use a phone card. So really, I pay $35 a month for service and then $13.88 for 400 minutes of long distance from my Sam's Club long distance card. Overall, I found this cheaper than being on Voicestream and only having 500 weekday minutes and unlimited weekend. I like my unlimited feature and there is absolutely no possibility of me ever going over my minutes cause it's unlimited.
But here's my warning about Sprint. It sucks ass if you're a normal person. They entice you with a shitload of minutes, but only 250 of them are daytime minutes and then 4000 or so for weeknight and weekends. So basically in a typical month, that only works out to an average of like 10 minutes per day of normal hours calling. If you're an up-all-night person, the plan works great.
If it wasn't for the fact that I have my local carrier here, I'd stay with Voicestream. Especially the Family plan where phones on the same plan can call each other unlimited amounts of minutes, anywhere in the country. Be great if you have a wife or girlfriend. (*edit: or boyfriend or life partner, whatever your preference is. Don't want to make any assumptions about people.)
