I'm ticked.

Stupid Windows XP. I was running Photoshop last night, and it crashed. Upon restart, I had to use the boot disk, reformat the hard drive, and reinstall the OS. I lost everything on my computer.

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

All my pics of the Trep, all my music, all my homework, everything from the past year. I've never been so mad.

It's just not been a good week for things that I own.

I know it's a little too late for advice, but to prevent this from happening again, it's always a good idea to partition your harddrive into two drives, that way, even if you have to reinstall your OS on the main drive, your data would be safe on the other drive.

How did XP make you reformat your hard drive? Sounds like a Mac commercial...

the only problems I ahve had with that are when crappy hardware/spyware/adware programs have been installed.... Never really have run across any bugs that serious that are OS related since windows '95.... just be more careful with what you install, make sure all of your fans are spinning (and not clogged with dust) and keep all your stuff backed up. Linux users generally experiance better stability because they do all that all the time anyway.. while *most* windows users don't give a damn about that stuff.. they just expect it never to need attention.

Damn punks!

We use linux for the servers at my school, and all the machines run win2000. Pretty snazzy. Expect the machines suck. We were supposed to get some p4's in but the stupid budget went to hell so we're left with fixing junk. Bastards....

kind of like a lot of people and cars. don't want to start an argument but i usually notice it being females and GM cars, namely pontiacs and cavaliers. i can't count the number of times i've seen girls driving around with beat down sunfires and grand prixs and shit that just makes me feel sorry for the car.

Uh, why would it FORCE you to format? Are you sure they don't give you the option of restoring..... It should always copy restore points every morning by default unless you disable that feature... But it should never force you to format unless you just flilp out and format like I do mosta the time ;)

I'm absolutely sure it didn't give me the option of restoring. I spent two hours trying to figure out a way to restore it.

Then I flipped out and formatted it.

Never format a XP box with NTFS unless you MUST have the file security.

FAT32 is the way to go but be sure to SYS the drive with Win98 BEFORE installing XP. Don't let XP overwrite the existing OS.

This way you still have access to a DOS prompt. Great for getting yourself out of a jam or doing BIOS updates. Be sure to set your bootmenu delay to 3-5 seconds.

If XP blows up either try putting the XP hard drive in another working XP system, XP can fix XP or you can try a repair. Forget the Recovery Console. Almost worthless pile of junk.

Your shouldn't have lost your data because of Photoshop taking a dump.
