I connect to them often and have no troubles. Are your computer settings set up for it?

Sometimes you have to go through the sources ( hotels ) home page first. That's where some of them get you, free access, but you need to enter your room number or something. Other times, you just see an ad for the hotel. Open Internet Explorer and see what loads.

Nine times out of ten it wants the room number and last name of the person that is renting the room.

Just so you know by law it's illegal to use hot spots like that. You have to be on the property. Parking lots doesn't count also.

the wifi points are probably mac locked, aka your mac address isn't on the allowed list, you can connect but no ip for you.

I use to run my wifi point open and any mac addresses not on the list had all their connections routed to goatse or tubgirl or something equally disgusting..

How good is the signal on the wifi points? If it's low that could be the problem...........

McD's charges money for their wifi, I think it's a buck for unlimited use.

By federal law it's illegal. It falls under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

the mc'ds here has it for free. i see 5 bars out of five on about 5 unsecured systems which include 3 major hotels, mc'ds and a certain major airline. maybe they require customers to change their settings on their laptops to receive their internet but i cant see why anyone who is flying through or eating linch would go through the trouble of changing settings or whatever to use their internet.
