Nice setup........about 9 months ago I got a Q6600, 8800GT, 4GB RAM, 2 x 500GB RAID 0 + 500GB backup, Vista 64 bit. I really love my config (except that GRID crashes :(), and yours should be able to blow mine away!

That should be fine as long as you're not heavy into gaming. If you are, you should probably get at least a 9600GT.

gaming wise ATI get a hd4870 or if you want to pay a lil less hd4850. i just changed out my system, went "down" from a intel Q6600 to an E8500 and 2 HD4870's, and all the fixings to go with it as my gaming rig. and just fyi, that E8500 makes a quad core look stupid. i had it OC'd to 4.2ghz stable, but i brought it down again

I have a Radeon HD4850 in my comp now, and it's regarded as the best bang for the buck card right now. You can get it for around $170 I think. If you don't want to spend that much you can get a GeForce 8800GT or 9600GT which are both great cards for around $100-120. They're about 20-30% slower than a 4850.

Geeks site has some cool stuff dirt cheap, you can go quad for only $399 and keep the above system as a spare. I usually build systems but the prices on that Geeks.com - Computer parts, Laptop computers, Desktop computers, Computer hardware site are really low. I was thinking of upgrading also but I don't run Vista here and the Windows 7 due out 2010 after the beta year 2008-2009 rolls out the door. Dual and Quad more for Vista now but the Quad is better with 64-bit OS, and Applications. Still there is more 32-bit applications than 64-bit.

You got 2.8GHz HT still fast unless the system is bogging down, you can fix that but using tune-up utilities 2008 tools which run daily or weekly to monitor system degradation and fix problems plus defrag the HDD. Run automate anti-spyware/virus to keep the system free.

Check your HD with HD-Tune (free) you can see the condition of the HD life left. Upgrade to the SATA over Ultra IE is a huge performance jump. Increase 1GB to 2GB.

P4 with HT is weaksauceness tbh. it was weak when they were new and weaker now. i say go for the upgrade asap. just dont put your system in raid 0 striped, dumb move on many accounts. ddr3 is kinda fail right now, if you look at benches you might as well save some money and get decent ddr2 that will out perform it. and i see no legit reason in getting a 64 bit os or a quad core, but that is just for me. not enough practical uses for a quad core for everyday people, yet alone a 64 OS. E8400 or E8500 are pimp! but, in your defense, the more that people head towards multithreaded apps the better they will be, but i have a tendency of changing pc parts out kinda often. 64 bit and quad will be the way to future proof it, just dont expect to get OVER 9000 times faster perfomance just from that. but who cares, computers are over rated

Well went with the upgrade, intel p45sg board, intel 9300 quad core, 2 sata 7200rpm hd,nvidia 9600gt video 512 mb ram, and 4gig ddr3 ocz special ops ram which does not seem to work as system will not post, so new system is waiting for other ram.I may go back to kingston ram as I have always had good luck with their ram.
