Windows 10 Upgrade Details/Poll

Many of you might have noticed a Pop-up or Tray Icon advertising a Free upgrade to Windows 10 recently. I'm trying to pin down who gets these notifications and what Version of current OS software you have. This "Free Upgrade" appears to be aimed at people with Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 only.

Most likely a tray icon will be placed in the lower right corner of your task bar. You might get a one-time pop-up announcing it...maybe not. When you do your normal "Windows Updates" you'll see a big banner announcing it with small text below the banner that says "Show all available updates" Pictures below!

I'm taking a poll that focuses on whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit OS and then whether you have a version of Windows 7, Windows 8 or windows 8.1. So far with all my available PCs which are mostly 64 bit OS I get the notification but don't get anything for the 32 bit versions.

So please vote in the poll with what OS you have and whether you got a Windows 10 notification. Thank you!

I have the tray icon on my WIN 7 64-bit. Didn't notice it until I read your OP.

My daughter got an offer (she didn't say in what form it appeared) on her 8.1 laptop - I assume it's 64-bit - will check and post back.

So far it looks the the notifications for the Free Win 10 upgrade are going out to 64 bit Win 7, 8 and 8.1 systems.

I've got 2 PCs with Win 7 32 bit with all the updates installed including SP1 and no notifications on them. These aren't ancient hardware systems that can barely run Win 7 either. Microsoft indicates there may be same systems that don't get the notification due to hardware Win 10 won't run on.

And none of my Dell PCs with OEM Win 7 are getting the notification. That's not really a surprise as Microsoft would leave upgrades up to the OEM.

Mine's an HP (again, OEM WIN7 64-bit). I wonder why Dell wouldn't enable the upgrade offer?

So, would I be able to download the upgrade and can wait to install it only if I hear good reports about WIN10, or do they force you to install by a certain date after which the ability to upgrade expires, not knowing if 10 is any good or not?

My dell came with Windows 8.1 on it.
But it also had a ton of "bloatware" on it as well.
that and I wanted to install my Samsung EVO Pro 840 SSD in it.
So I installed the SSD, and built a Windows 7 Pro x64 machine.
So far, this has been the finest running piece of computing hardware I have ever had.
My ThinkPad T520 comes in at a close second.

I am looking forward to the Windows 10 upgrade.
We'll give it a go.

Good Choice!

You'll get a notification that the upgrade has been downloaded. You can choose to install it or not at that time. You'll also be able to do a rollback to your original OS if you decide you don't like it later on.

It doesn't hurt to have a current system image backed already. I think you learned that from earlier experiences? LOL!

Looks like Microsoft is broadcasting the Win 10 free upgrade to 32 bit systems. Got the tray icon this morning on a Win 7 Pro 32 bit CPU/MoBo/RAM/Hard Drive combo I'm about to list on Ebay. w00t!

Is it legit? I mean, the icon seems to indicate a $0 upgrade to Windows 10, which seems friggin' awesome.

I'm on a factory refurb Dell running Win8 64bit, btw.

But you probably can't add it to your poll now because you already voted?
