I landed on this

I have bought an laptop off ebay relly cheap. IMO it was a steal since all I had to pay was $48.98 ($28.99 plus $19.99 shipping) for it, and it is going to take about another $60 to fix it since the owner is going to pull the hard drive and memory out of it.

The laptop is a TOSHIBA TECRA 9100

SPECS: Intel Pentium 4 Mobile 1.8 GHz, no hard drive, no memory, 14.1 inch LCD, ect...

It seems like it will be a good machine, just gotta dig out the extra AC adapter that I have around here (That I got in an removal contract with the authorization to sell whatever I get from the closed building).

The memory I am going to get from a well known memory dealer here on the internet.

This laptop is going to my sister once I get it fixed and running. Hers broke on her and there are a lot of problems getting replacement parts for hers since the parts are not manuactured anymore. She has been trying to get me and my dad (He knows that I did this) to tell what we are hiding from her, but we keep her guessing since it is going to be a secret.

**EDIT**
I forgot to mention, but I bought it on the 23rd of Febuary, and Paypal finally transfered the funds to the guys account on the 26th of Febuary.

--------------
Side Note
--------------

I have had this idea, but any input is welcome on this as well. Once I get the machine running and running well, I was thinking about taking and putting it in a box, and putting that box within another box, and again within another box. The last box will have some weight to it since I have some concrete / wood around here that I can use to help add weight to throw her off guard.

Any other suggestions would be a welcome as well.

I ordered Memory for this laptop yesterday from a memory manufacturer and awaiting for it to come be shipped out to me (Cost me $21 total). I just ordered the Hard Drive for it today and that was expensive. If I ordered it yesterday while I was at it, it would of cost me a lot less since they had free shipping yesterday and it expired today. I also had to order an AC Adapter for this machine due to a problem.

Here is the link to the Hard Drive:

Newegg.com - Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST980815A 80GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive - Laptop Hard Drives

**EDIT**

I have contacted NEWEGG and asked nicely what gives because there was free shipping on the hard drive yesterday and when I ordered it, the free shipping was gone, and now free shipping is back. I hope it was just a mistake on their end when I ordered the hard drive. Also my order states that it has shipped, but I have not gotten a tracking number at all and I had them ship it UPS Gorund.

Yes I did get the hard drive caddy for this laptop. I even got the scres for the hard drive. I talked the person who I bought it from to include it and yes it does have all the covers and the WINDOWS XP PRO code on it still with a good battery.

Wow, great job... I Just brought an older VAIO back from the 'dead motherboard' situation... always nice when you can land something like that!

Thanks. Monday and Tuesday the rest of the parts that I ordered for this laptop will be in so that I can install them to get it fully up and running again. The last of the parts is the memory and the hard drive. The memory will be in tomorrow, and the Hard Drive will be in on Tuesday. Today I got the AC Adapter for this machine that I ordered this week. I just can not wait to get this machine up and running so that I can put it to it's limits.

One thing I like about this laptop is that it has both Windows XP Professional and an Windows 2000 Professional code on the same sticker (Yes Microsoft Did that For some machines).

I ordered an 80 GB Hard Drive and 512 Meg of Ram (Starter for now) for this machine. This laptop did come with an removeable CD-RW / DVD Combo drive.

uggh, I got to order an processor for this laptop since it is the cause of a no-boot condition the laptop is having. How do I know it needs a new processor and not something else you ask? I know because I removed the Intel Mobile Pentium 4 1.7 GHz processor and shove in a true Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz (From and HP Pavillion Desktop PC) and the laptop booted up and operates until it starts to overheat. The processor fan was not designed for the true Intel Pentium 4 processors, so the laptop will overheat and just lock up and will not turn back on until the processor gets within the operating limits.

I can get an Intel Mobile Pentium IV (4) 2.0 GHz that is max according to TOSHIBA for $30.00 plus shipping. The processor I was looking at is a pull and it comes with an 30 day warranty. When this laptop is running, it runs great and it is speedy.
