My Random PC Projects/Stuff Thread.

Figured everyone was getting tired of me posting this stuff in the Whore thread so I'll start one here. Maybe a following in the making? heh

Building a "Cheap" PC in this Deluxe Thermaltake case. RGB Lighting for the Foos that like that Bling shit!

AMD Quad Core Phenom II/ ASRock 970 Exreme 4 MoBo/4GB DDR3 RAM/2TB HDD/500W PSU/Win 10 Pro x64

Figure around $200. Just trying to get rid of some misc components I've had laying around.

Under $70 without PSU. RGB lighting is LED. Sturdy case. White Side panel is Powder coated. Other side is a complete smoked plexiglass panel. lots of room at top and front for 240mm radiators. Very high quality for the price IMO.

Downside?

No 5.25" External bays for an optical drive. That's about it.

Seems like a pretty good deal. What were the stats on it again?

I see they have it in black as well.
No optical drive and only space for 4 hdds might be a deal breaker for me. My burner doesn't get much use these days, but the idea of not having one at all is a bit unsettling.
My pc is currently housed in a HTPC case with 1 optical drive bay, but there's no 3.5 bay for my media card reader and I cant put the top on because the GPU sits about an inch above the top of the case.
I've been thinking about ditching the htpc style case for a while now and going back to a regular tower. This one is pretty tempting.

I also bought one of the Versa C21 RGB cases in Black but haven't done anything with it yet. Similar in size with RGB lighting and about $5 more than the C22 RGB. It has 2x5.25" External bays. No PSU cover at the bottom though. That cover really does clean up the interior. The side panel with the window is a combo metal/plastic unlike the C22 where the entire side panel is smoked plastic panel.

Anyone need an almost new Mini-ITX AMD Quad Core CPU/MoBo/4GB RAM combo for a NAS Box build or cheap compact PC? About to list this on CL for $50.
Biostar A68N-5545 MoBo With Quad Core AMD A8-5545 APU. HD8510D Graphics On Chip.
Samsung 4GB DDR3 RAM 2x2GB.

The Biostar MoBo/CPU retails for $60. Memory would probably be $30-35 so $90-95 if you bought new. So at least a 40% discount!

I used a $20 external USB DVD drive to load any software that was on a disc. Other than that everything was loaded from USB flash drives.

If you need a media card reader there's plenty of cheap external USB ones. The top has 2x USB 2.0 ports and 2x UB 3.0 ports. The back would depend on your motherboard.

Just finished up a Compact NAS box that will be a File Server/Media Server/BackUp Location with these deluxe components........

MSI Gaming Intel B250 LGA 1151 DDR4 HDMI mini-ITX Motherboard (B250I GAMING PRO AC)

Intel 3.70 GHz Core i3-6100 3M Cache Processor (BX80662I36100)

HyperX Fury 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4 2133MHz DRAM (Desktop Memory) CL14 1.2V DIMM (288-pin) HX421C14FBK2/8 (Intel XMP, AMD Ryzen)

LIAN LI PC-Q25B Black Aluminum Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case

Lian Li makes some high quality cases. This one has 5x 3.5" hot swap HDD bays along with room for 3x more 2.5"/3.5" drives at the bottom of the case. It measures only 14.41" x 7.83" x 11.02"
Had to buy an add-in PCI-E SATA card to get the total SATA ports up as the MoBo only had 4.
Used a Corsair 450W Hybrid Modular PSU to fit into the tight space.

Loading software now.

No need for Overclocking or a hard core video card for the NAS box. The i3 on chip Intel HD 530 graphics will be fine. Supposed to be able to to support 4k video but not really important in this application. Won't be viewing video directly from the box. Big thing is the processing for transcoding video files to serve them up to remote PCs. The i3-6100 should be fine for a Skylake processor. If not then an i5 is an easy pop in solution.

It's up For Sale on CL locally. I think it's a fair price.
