Problems with the graphics?

hey guys. im having some problems with my computer, its a HP A405N
about a 2004 model.with XP, about 1GIG of ram.& a 2.7ghz processor. i took it to the computer shop, they told me its not a hardware issure its software, that my graphics aren't refreshing as fast as they should. he said theres something messing around with my graphics, that with only one program its using to much memory or doing to many things or something. the problem its doing, is, i cant watch youtube vids, or any vids for that matter, when i go to change my background picture it takes FOREVER, and it acts slow when opening closing windows. he said that the windows are working correctly, its just not updating the images correctly. also when he was pluging my computer in, on startup, it took forever to install his mouse & keyboard, he said that there's other things going on in the background to put the keyboard & mouse on the back-burner ( so to speak). sorry this is a jumbled mess and i dont know much about computers, i took a computer class in school but i slept through it...all i know is its driving me crazy and i dont have the 150$ he wants to fix it. also i have Microsoft security essentials

You should try running ccleaner to clean some of the crap on your system.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner

When was the last time you defragged your system? Get SmartDefrag for that and run it. Might take a good while for it to run if you have not ran it for a while.

You need a better virus protection than what you got. It also could be malware issues on your system. Here is my personal fileshare. Get AVG from it...

Good Luck...

I also wonder how many programs you are running in the background.

Go to the run command and type in msconfig and check the startup tab. Uncheck all the unnecessary crap that runs in the background. If you have enough programs running in the background this will substantially increase the up time.

run a program called malwarebytes. you can get it at download.com. It will take care of some bugs on your system. Your last resort is to do a system restore to when the system was shipped to you. Doing this wipes the hdd including pics, music, etc. BACKUP FIRST. There should be a hiddent partition on your hdd. Check your documentation on it. or do a google search of your model hp. Type in system restore on your hp model. Dont forget this wipes everything and puts it to when it was bought. Best feature put on these systems. Only problem is doing all the ms updates and putting your music and files back. good luck and let us know how it goes. I dont think its a hardware issue.

o boy..... run ccleaner and malwarebytes. run a virus checker too. as for what to uncheck at startup. click the start button the all programs then go to startup. see whats there first. If there is a office find fast. that can be deleted. You mainly need your speaker icon, virus software. The items near your clock that you rarely use can be deleted. right click each one and choose close. this closes the program not deletes it. to delete these programs you will have to go to start then run the msconfig under the startup tab. If you want list everything here and we could help u out. It might be alot of stuff so. we can narrow it down for u.

to post a screen shot have the screen open and hit the print screen key on the keyboard. then go to ms paint. open that up and hit ctrl v. save that file as a picture jpeg or bmp. then post the pic here
