ipod touch 1st gen OBDII?

I was hoping I could get some help here. I've been out of the tech world for WAY too long. I've seen a few members talking about monitoring various engine outputs thru their ipod touch interfaces.... I don't quite get it.

I'm assuming there is a wireless OBDII plug that transmits data wirelessly (probably through wi-fi or bluetooth). Then there is an app of some kind that interpets that data stream into real time values.

So is there a app for second gen treps?

Where would you get a wireless OBDII plug, and how would I enable my old POS 1st gen ipod touch to work with it? I'm running iOS 3.1. It does not support the newer iOS...(bluetooth) it does have wi-fi though. Any help here would be great!!

On a side note.... I might need some help from any of those who has ever changed out 1st gen components.... I've got a new LCD,digitizer and battery coming!

I've heard of this but as far as I know there is no such thing as a wireless one

I downloaded the app a while back but it doesn't work without the cable

DashCommand by Palmer Engineering requires iOS 3.0 or later. I use it with The 99 dollar GoPoint. The GoPoint has a downloadable basic app for free.

DashCommand finally has a downloadable user manual.

There are a number of other iPod compatable devices that run either WIFI or Bluetooth.

This has a cable that goes from the OBD II port to a wireless transmitter
