Ha ha...reminds me of "Top Gun" when Goose said to Maverick right after they got busted for the tower fly-by...

"Hey Mav, do you still have the number to that truck driving school?... what was it 'Truck Masters'? Awwww Shit!!"

You don't know how many times I have repeated that line in the past couple of months....

I cannot believe what I am hearing! The good ole US of A. The zenith of democracy, freedom, pursuit of happiness and finance, capitalism, commercialism and the almighty American Dollar.

Nothin' at Enron? Ooppps, I forgot. Forget about what I said just above.

Seriously, I cannot believe you are having so much trouble. And yer a few miles from the center of international commerce.

Do yourself a favour...Try to build your own business. You'll never regret it. I am sure that there is financial help from the government and your unemployment office should be able to help.

I'm going nuts because this is off-season for me. Slow as hell, alot of stuff for sure without dates and confirmed dates for April, May and June. I want the short term stuff NOW! The long term is nice but I have to wait ages for the money.

The weather is too lousy to test these drivers outdoors, so everyone waits til spring.

Anyhow, good luck. The hi-tech sector is still booming here in Ottawa but it is cold, snowy, damp, dark and our $$$ is worth sh!t!

Anyhow, I'm talkin too much.

I'm actually starting my own business.
www.tek-smart.com

I'm going to try and get some local contracts with some businesses to be their "on-call" guy for their networks.

But, I still want to get real employment. New York is admittedly, the capital of the world. But so many people lost their jobs out here when the towers fell. And to be a "greenie" like me doesn't help when 20,000 people (with experience) are looking for the same job out here on the island. Looks like I might have to head outta state. :( I Love NY!!! :(

If you do have to move, check out the various calculators and research tools here. I've used them in the past when I've been called away on long-term contracts.

Yea, you're right. NY state is a great state and the city, even better. I am about 50 miles north of NY state. The closest town is Ogdensburg. You probably never heard of it. Just a small little town. The larger cities closest to me would be Watertown (about a 2 HR. drive) and Syracuse (3+ hour drive).

I put in a response to a web ad for a position in Toledo, OH. Get to travel all over the states. I am well qualified but getting a Canadian into the states is difficult.

I've been out of work since October!! I was doing Sales Engineering for an ISP but they had to do a massive layoff. There is nothing around here. I do have an interview next week though for a Network Engineering position...unfortunately its 3rd shift! At this point though I'll take anything otherwise my 'trep might be up for sale soon. Anyone interested in a Motorsports edition Intrepid SE?

Hey Intrepidatious:

Have you been looking mostly in Long Island... or have you checked out Manhattan? Have you talked to any of the major IT headhunting agencies? (Remmington, Pathfinders, etc.)

I'll admit, I haven't been using headhunters. I am a little skeptical of them. But I may, believe it or not, I'm going to take a test with the IRS on Tuesday for a position. So, if any of you cheese me off, you're getting audited!!!

I also am looking within the Dept of Defense, so I'll nuke you too. I really would like to get in with the government.

Wish me luck!! (I will still probably contact a headhunter though.)

Well... ill tell you one thing... every job ive gotten... ive gotten through a headhunter. Well thats with the exception of this one job that my father worked for. :-)

I would suggest you contact those two headhunters. Get their numbers either from online or 411. Yeah headhunters can be a little scummy... but those two have gotten me jobs in the past (including my present job). If there are ANY jobs hiring... they will get you interviews... especially for entry level.
