TV as second monitor?

Well, i finally got my 27" TV back from my parents (their 52" bigscreen was hit by lightning so they bought a 61" High Definition Widescreen tv )
Anyway, i was tryin to hook it up through my Geforce2 MX-400 w/ TV out. I hooked up the S-Video cable and restarted my computer and it found the TV and installed a monitor driver. I changed all the settings to run it @ 640x480 256 colors but i cant get any picture. I also tried it with a regular rca video cable instead of S-Video but same thing happens. Do i need a different TV driver instead of a monitor driver, or did i just forget to do something?

I think you need something called a scan converter, that is what we use at school to hook them up with.

I would have thought if your machine has an S-video output, it should just patch right in to the TV monitor and work.

You may need a scan converter, it will change your computer video signal to NTSC so that you can view it on a TV monitor. It uses your current computer monitor output and converts it by connecting to the TV with RCA's. I bought one about 3 years ago, cost around $100, not to expensive, worth it for me, for at the time i needed to dub off a bunch of videos to VHS.

Good luck, hope you can figure it out.

Actually, you dont need to add anything.

If you have the latest detonator drivers loaded for your Nvidia card (Nvidia Web Site link), right click your desktop area and pull the display properties. Click on Advanced, under the Device Selection. If you have your TV still connected, Click on "detect displays". Your TV should now be a choosable option. Set your format and change your TV to Video mode. Click apply and you should get your computer on your TV. If you do not get a picture, do not panic, just wait the 15 secs and your computer monitor will come back since you did not answer the "do you want to keep this setting prompt". If you do have this error, check the cables again and your TV for it's settings required for S-video.

I watch my movies from Morpheus this way. Bigger picture.

another way is to plug the TV in, and unplug your monitor, before you turn your computer ON. The GFX card detects that there is no monitor and there is a TV, so it runs in TV mode.
