Exclamation Samsung Galaxy S 3/4 Comparison?

I'm checking to see if anyone has useful comparison info on the Samsung Galaxy S 3/4 versions of smartphones. I'm checking into getting one or the other and looking for input from people that either own one now or have owned one in the past. Looks like the S4 has a slightly larger screen vs the S3....5" vs 4.8". I'm sure there's some other features of the S4 that are not available on the S3. It looks like they both run on Ice Cream Sammich (4.1 Android?) Any super compelling reasons to get the 4 over the 3?

Factor in I can get an S3 for much less than an S4 and I don't use any of the Social networking features period and go from there. Also throw in the S2 to the equation! Any real drawbacks to getting one of those(even cheaper!) Granted it runs on Jelly Bean I think.

So if you're a current or previous owner of any of these versions...please chime in with your views on the plus/minuses! I don't want hear about any of the "I had a friend of a friend of a cousin that said they sucked" type of replies. I'm looking for real world views from actual owners of any of these versions of phones.

Thanks!

Wife's S3 has been in use for about 6 months. Previously owned a MyTouch which was buggy at best. She's a Sci-Fi geek and she absolutely uses it to it's limits frequently with her geek friends. No complaints at all so far.

What is the price difference for what you can get the two phones for?

I have only played with them briefly, but the S4 is definitely a powerhouse smart phone. If you won't be needing that then perhaps you could get away with a S3.

It's almost a $150 difference for me. Which by itself is tilts things in favor of the S3.

As far as a "powerhouse"...that's not on the top of my list.

I don't use my phone for everything as in a replacement for my PC. There are too many projects that are better suited to the PC for me. I do some casual web browsing on the phone and check my email mainly. Camera functions, Photo editing, Video viewing , etc are all best left to a real PC.

Make note that I have no desire to view videos on the tiny screen. I never use YouBoob aka YouTube etc. Not to mention that most players in the game now limit your unlimited data downloads and charge you extra if you exceed it. Like I said earlier I don't subscribe to social media services and live on FaceCrap aka Facebook and the like.

Apple is completely out so don't even think of bringing that up. The Android platform is what I'm focusing on here. There are plenty of useful apps out there.

My needs are a good screen, access to the higher speed networks and upgrade ability. The social networking BS is a negative for me.

Well then I would say go S3, but being able to have the most upgraded OS in the future will be a plus down the road that I'd consider for the sake of stability and security, even if you're not interested in features.

I don't use my phone to do any heavy lifting either right now, but it's an older phone. I would wager that I'll still stick to the PC as well though once I upgrade.

I hear you can use the s4 as a remote... or is that the new HTC? Either way, unless you plan on rooting to keep up with the latest and greatest security like Dan mentioned - go with the S4.

I have an S3 and an iphone 4 (not 4S), the S3 lags with the new OS and multiple apps open. I'm always using my iphone for calls and messages, but browsing the S3 screen can't be beat for the size.

My friend has the HTC one with the speakers in the front and that is an amazing phone although battery life is pitiful with it (same with my S3). It also has the remote control feature due to having infrared.

If you want a good purpose phone with excellent battery life, I would suggest an Apple phone (the 4S should be practically free now) and mine lasts about a day (used to be 1.5 days, but it's 3 years old now).

I don't see an advantage to having an S4 other than some extra features that you'd probably never use. If you want a Samsung, the S3 will be fine. Great phone just lousy battery life.

The S4 has far better battery life than the S3 even with the better processor and screen.

Stay away from HTC. From what I've heard from some industry insiders HTC as a company is in trouble. The phone might be great, but I'd be hesitant to get a product that may not have the same support down the road.

I would never use an Apple phone. There are so many little reasons why that I won't dig into though. That's a huge tangent.

Duh! See my post above where I'm limiting this discussion to the Galaxy series. No Apple Crapple will be purchased. Read the entire post!

Actually there's an Android app out to do the remote thing. Even have one that will act as a Mouse. Called Mobile Mouse I think.

No hurry Dave. I'm in the expeditionary stages right now. It'll be awhile.

I did read your post and it was asking for opinions on the galaxy series, however, I gave you a personal comparison geared towards 3 manufacturers.

In terms of the galaxy series in the LH world it's like asking do I buy an intrepid R/T, a chrysler 300M or a 300M special. You get what you pay for; I hope that clears up the series for you. They all do the same job.
