DSL Speed differences
Hi all. A quick question.
I am running 2 operating systems on my pc. Windows Server 2003 32bit and Windows XP 64bit. A couple of weeks ago my Server 2003 OS went down and for a while I was using the XP OS.
I was getting up and down speeds on my DSL connection of 3000/800 when using Server 2003. But when I switched to XP, my speeds dramatically increased, to 6000/2000. All these speeds were measured using BitTorrent downloads. I was used to a max of about 300kb/s down and 80kb/s up when grabbing multiple downloads using Server 2003. But doing the same thing on XP, my speeds went as high as 600kb/s down and 175kb/s up.
My Server 2003 OS is my full time system I use, which has tons of apps installed on it, many more I've tried and uninstalled and I remember having tried various network tweaks on it to improve DSL speeds. My XP OS is pretty much bare bones and completely clean, I only use it when I'm having problems with my main OS.
So the question is, why am I not getting my full DSL capacity on my Server 2003 system? I suspect the registry is bloated with garbage or maybe I fubar'd my network settings when I was dicking around. Where can I look to make changes or clean things up to get my DSL speeds back up?
