iPod Video

I bought a new iPod Video and according to the sales guy, it only plays MPEG 4 and .mov files. Does anyone know of any software that will convert DVD's to either MPEG 4 or .mov files? Hopefully it's a program that is free or cheap (or can be downloaded from a P2P network)?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Didn't see that any of those programs converted to MPEG 4. Just joins and splits MPEG 4.

Does one of those programs actually convert to MPEG 4 and just not list it as a feature?

So far, I'm using a program that was designed to convert multiple formats into a format that Sony PSP's can play, which is the same format that the iPod Video plays. It's still a hassle though, cause I have to rip DVD's into like a .avi format first then convert it. No straight to MPEG 4 conversion found yet.

Huh?

vcdhelp.com is the resource for DVD ripping/reencoding/converting/authoring. Look around, do some searches, ask in the forum, you will find what you need.

take a look at handango and other mobile software sites- they have programs that convert dvds to mpeg and avi and a bunch of formats. i use pocket dvd studio. i'm pretty sure the software makers will update their programs to output movies of the proper resolution for video ipods...

can you check on itunes if you can buy the new (season 2) episodes of lost? if that's the case then i might go get myself a video ipod lol

Right. I should have clarified. I've looked there and other places and the only solution that everyone seems to have is to first rip a DVD into a format like .avi or MPEG 2. Then convert that format into MPEG 4. For example, the link that ACDaze gave. That program converts common formats like .avi or mpeg into MPEG 4. I already have a program like that. In fact, I have two like that. I just don't want to process the same video twice.

No one seems to have a program that rips straight from DVD to MPEG 4.
