After three years they HAVE to be replaced because they make such a racket. But after only one year they start making noise and that bothers me. I'm planning very quiet case fans (and power) for the next machine and I don't want the peace and quiet ruined by a noisy CPU fan. To top it off the next machine will also have at least one vid fan (SLI or not to SLI - that is the question
) and I expect it'll be just like the CPU fan - noisy after a year. The water cooled systems provide for CPU and vid cooling with almost no noise.

Actually the Zalman units are down to $200. Thermaltake makes a $130 unit but it's not as quiet and I have concerns about heat build-up inside the case with theirs. The external Thermaltake is almost as much as the Zalman unit.

Ain't gonna' happen before retirement. However, you are right about it solving the problem ...
1. Stop smoking (get edgy from nicotine withdrawal)
2. Kill boss
3. Go to jail
4. No more computer (or fans) to worry about
