nice, i just hope that you meant that you have the x2 3800+ rather than a single core, cuz a 120 mhz oc is not realy anything to say and the x2 is only like 8 bucks more, either way, x2 or even the single core can easily get oc'd to 2.9-3.1 ghz, not so sure with the via chips if it can get the nforce can, overall, sweet system

Yeah its just a single core 3800. I bought it about two days before they came out with the FX55. The stock speed is 2.4ghz. I know its not much to say, as I've only got it bumped up 3% which I normally don't overclock because I'm a freak about temperature. Once I get a liquid cooling system I'll be good to go.
I've actually had this machine running for about 2 years now, So, its about time for the upgrade. My Motherboard doesn't support the dual cores, even with the latest BIOS revision, So I'll be going for MB and CPU, as well as Vid card upgrades. I'm thinking the Athlon 64 FX60 dual core on an ATI "Crossfire" board
with 2 new ATI X1900 XT's!

Wow, what do you do with your computer that you can justify spending over a GRAND for that processor?

Not trying to criticize, it's a real question. I know people would ask me the same thing about digital cameras, but I've made that money back many times over in gigs.

It won't cost that much by the time he buys it - the AM2's are due out shortly, which should lower the cost of the 939 socket chips. I just bought this little beauty myself ...

Yeah, and another grand for the pair of new ATI X1900XT's that I was talking about in the third post. And yes, by the time I buy one, the prices will have come down a little.
Ask me how I can justify putting $3000 worth of wheels and tires on my car...

But a car is like a status symbol that everyone can see. No one's gonna be able to see your computer. Your internet posts are gonna be the same as someone with a Pentium II, your papers or reports won't be any fancier, etc.

I was really wondering if you develop games or professionally do something or another that needs that kind of computing power. I think D76G12 had mentioned that does need that kind of power to do some of the stuff he's doing. I was just wondering what you do with all that power, that's all.

Understood, but not like a car. Everyone can see your car (except the blind, haha), whereas no one sees or knows about your computer unless you brag about it, and if you do, then you're just a dork cause we all hate people who brag. I'm sure among your friends, you will be tha man

But I mean, it's all good. EVERYONE has their thing that they spend their money on. Computers for some, cars for others, pr0n for the freaky.

Oh yeah, what do I do with the computer?
well, among my circle of friends, we've always had the "who's got the fastest pc?" thing going on. I've been building pcs since before MS came out with windows! In fact, my first PC was an 8088 with PCdos 1.0 (Before IBM sold it to MS) I remember one year, I think it was '90 or '91, I had a 386 33Mhz, and my buddy went out and bought a 486SX 66Mhz, Well this pissed me off, so I went the very next weekend and bought a 486DX 100Mhz! This completely blew his mind! It was the fastest processer at the time. And I still refused to install Windows 3.1! DOS 6.22 had every thing I needed. I hated Windows. (thought it was gay!) LOL!
Anyway, back in those days is when I started level designing for 3D games. I've designed levels (maps) for Doom, Doom2, DukeNUkem3D, Quake 1, 2, and 3, and more recently Doom3, and HalfLife2. It takes a beefy machine to compile maps for one thing.
And then theres the quest for the ultimate framerate. There are people who think an XBOX 360, or a PSwhatever has good graphics, well, if you haven't seen some of the latest PC games on a "high end" 3D card, you haven't seen good graphics. I was at this guy I know from work's house the other day and he had an Xbox360 hooked up to a widescreen HDTV (like a 52") playing "Call of Duty" I almost busted out laughing when he said "Just look at those graphics, dude!" He has no clue!
I'll admit it, I'm a gamer. I'm part of a very competative league of players at Webviper.com In a Deathmatch, framerate is real important. CPU and Video horsepower is a must.

And aside from all the gaming stuff, I'm also a musician. You can check out my music HERE
All of the songs were recorded and mixed on this PC using "Cakewalk Sonar 3 Producer Edition" (go price that!) Using various MIDI and analog audio devices on multiple tracks gets CPU hungry, so, the faster, the better!
And of course I watch all my DVDs, Divx, Digital photography, etc, etc, on the PC.
So, with all that said, I will tell you that I do not use the computer for work. My job is a completely different world, and I do very well to afford such luxuries.

OH, I almost forgot the computer's most improtant role, the Pzorno!

Yep! Same specs (more or less) as an Opty 185 except I assume the FX clock multiplier can still be pushed beyond it's rating.

But you might want to re-write your wish list - look what I found ...

How many people can see the mods I've made to my R/T? No one except those that ride in it (and that's a short list) can see any mods and then all they can see is the EVIC+ - a safety mod. The 300M Special programming is hidden, the intake is hidden, and the exhaust would be hidden, too, if I could have quieted it down without sacrificing performance. But it moves faster now so that means, what? - a hundred people at best will even see the improved 1/4 mile times and they won't care since it won't break 15 without more money than I'm willing to spend.

The computer "mods" will be seen by everyone looking at one of my OC Forums (and other sites) post because it's SOP there to you put your machine specs in your sig - just like it is here. That often includes a "validation" page that shows you've really gotten those times out of your machine so there's no cheating/lying about it. It's a culture all it's own and it's probably as popular as car specific sites like DI.Net.

Senior members help the junior members out by answering questions. Members who have modded their machines help others by posting their results, how they got there, and by answering questions about their mod. Everybody shares information because goodness knows there's too much of it out there for any one person to keep up. People experiment and share so others can either copy them or avoid their mistakes. People talk about the latest gadgets available and those who have tried them out share their comments. Sound familiar?

Cars and computers have a lot more in common than you might think ...
