The official strange error of the day thread!

I see a reformat or a hardware test on one of the machines I recently built.

I got a Data Execution Prevention error from Explorer.exe! WOW! Something really screwed up, explorer tried to execute data!

The error read something like "To protect your computer, Windows has closed the following application"

Nice! It seems to work OK now but I'm running memtest86 tomorrow and flogging it with some benchmarks..... a disk check is in order too.

This is the first prob it has given though, and it is Windows after all...

So that's my interesting error message of the day, anyone else have any funky errors to report?

Now if only I could keep the blasted NVIDIA Forceware Network Access Manager from BSODing PCs..... Yo, NVIDIA! You have a BUG!

Error for the NVIDIA Active Armor firewall: STOP: 0x000000D1 Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal file is nvtcp.sys or sometimes http.sys, although the http.sys one is fixed by an MS patch.

And who can forget my FAVORITE error, the one that makes me LOTs of cash when it happens: STOP: 0x0000009C Machine_Check_Exception! For those who don't know, that basically means your hardware is FUBAR.

Hehe, I loved nVidia's nForce2 platform drivers back before I found nForcersHQ -- that damn SW IDE driver corrupted the hell out of two of my drives. This was before I found out that nVidia and Maxtor have troubles playing nice. Plus my cables were cheapo round IDE cables, but yeah. I find it funny that the release drivers are unstable, but the betas are solid as a rock...

Heh, and I NEVER install the ForceWare driver. Then again, I'm behind a hardware firewall/router. Personally, I'd trust a hamster wheel with some CAT5 cables hanging off it more than I'd trust nVidia with network management...

Definitely hit that box with a MemTest. Then do a repair install of XP. Then run Prime95 for a few iterations. As if you weren't going to anyway, eh?

Another strange error!

Ok, I installed Symantec Antivirus on our new server last night. Today I find that all our network shares are inaccessible....... OH CRAP!

The error was "not enough server storage to process this command" WTF?!?! I have like 135 GB free on the server.....

Well, there was a registry key that had to be edited, it's an issue with some AV programs and Windows NT, 2000, XP and Server 2003.

The infamous IRPStackSize bug rears it's ugly head. Symantec products are NOTORIOUS for messing up this value.

It's fixed now, and I'm happy.

Wanna know the fix? Here's the link: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q177078

One day all of the sudden my recycle symbol changed from empty to full while i was on my desktop... I right clicked and hit empty and it said are you sure you want to delete "WINDOWS" lol. I open the recycle bin and nothing is there so i just emptied anyway, nothing happened and eventually it just disapeared.

Hardware Guy- Thats a weird one, ive never even heard of anyone that has had DEP stop a program to begin with. Ive seen the options for it and have never had it warn me of anything, although i dont have the hardware version of it (windows says i dont anyway, it says it still does some good to have it enabled.)
