oh for the love of "Mary"!

What could a site possibly have to loose from a deep link to their site? I understand that content changes quite often on a few sites, but most sites still keep the content on the server just in case it's being referred to.

re: their argument that the homepage of the site should be referred!

what!? We all know how some sites don't even have the right navigation, so if you want to show someone an item on the site, isn't it much easier and quicker to point the link directly to the page you need, versus having them search for that page, assuming the site has a search engine at all!

wow! where did all that come from!? I feel better now though... later!

That is full of shit. What is this world coming too. I deep link all the time because (like Metalroar said) it is easier to link directly to an article, something for sale, or whatever than it is to have someone dig for it themselves.

I think I will deep link to the Dutch news sites just for the hell of it.

The entire lawsuit is because of stupid people.

If the companies are really THAT anal, they can restrict access by the referrer to the page. They could only allow pages to be opened if they are referred by somone who has permission. Some sites DO implement this.

My attitude is.... If they want to be anal and require people to have permission to deep link to their stuff, they can screw off.

If you need special permission, people won't waste their time and read their crap.

Its their loss.......

Now, if its good information, and worthwhile..... thats everybodies loss.

That reminds me of a couple days ago....

I was at Paramount's Kings Island with my GF.

We were riding the elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower. It is a 1/3rd scale replica.

The operator was announcing that by state law you could not spit, throw, launch, drop any objects, etc, etc, from the top of the tower. (It is some 279 feet up)

At the end, I muttered 'Are we allowed to breathe?' He promptly said "No! No breathing!!!"

Back about a year ago there was a article that was just about as disturbing. It was a lawsuit of some type where the US postal service was after the powers to be concerning losing revenues to e-mail, and the way USPS wanted "make good". I forget the actual lingo, but it was NOT good reading for us "general joe's". Generally speaking, I don't think about it and the problem went away...

What was that old saying back in High School? "If bongs were outlawed, only outlaws would own bongs"... In other word, DO IT ANYWAY!

Seems to me the same thing applies here, if ya know what I mean.

Tom.
