Need suggestions: new PC speakers

I'm moving into my dorm at college in about 3 weeks and I've established that there probably isn't going to be room for my current pc sound system (running it through my stereo into 2 speaker towers (12" subs, 5.25" mids and tweeters)) that take up a large amount of floor space compared to how much we have. I want to pick up a pretty good set of 2.1 pc speakers, but need some brand/model suggestions. I definately dont want to spend over $100 and pretty much the cheaper the better.

You can't go wrong with the Logitech Z-340, the best 3-set speakers in their pricerange. They run about 40 dollars.
Or you can get the 5 piece set for 60.

My friend has a set and they rock. Sound quality is top notch and the sub kicks ass.

They have a couple nice sets of Altec Lansing at Staples. I got the one that's $70 or so, and they have a nicer set (the one that Warlord has I think) for $100.

edit: Here's the ones I have:

And here's the better ones:

If you have a credit card order them online. Since theirs a rebate be sure not to toss the UPC code on the box.

I still love my Cambridge Soundworks 4.1 setup but have found that any speakers you get with a subwoofer improve your PC

My friend has a set of Klipsch and my Altec Lansing blows them away. I don't know if he has bad accoustics or something is messed up with them.

When I was looking at computer speakers I was messing around with the higher end models of the Altec Lansing and Klipsch speakers. Both sounded really, really sweet. If I had that kind of cash, picking between one of those would have been tough. Both had their pros and their cons.

it also matters what you are running for a sound card

just like any audio product if you dont have a good clean source the result sounds like crap

also assuming he has the 4.1 setup it's important to setup your surround and subwoofer speakers correctly, when I first setup my Cambridge Soundworks they sounded like crap also, a little bit of tuning and I have them sounding as good as a home theater setup

SB LIVE here also, sounds beautiful.

I had a friend who was running Klipsch on his SB LIVE and they did sound pretty. I haven't really messed around with Altec Lansing so I guess I really don't have a basis for my love of Klipsch. I think it might be serious disease of liking to spend alot of money. hehe.

hey warlord where do you work for?? My dad is a product design engineer for Lear Corp. in Zanesville Ohio, and he travels to Dearborn Michigan every so often for meeting with the big guys, didn't know if you happened to work for Lear too.
