There IS hope for Intel GMA 950/3000/3100X Users!

Intel released some new drivers for their integrated video chipsets earlier this month and the improvements are MASSIVE!

Some improvements I have noticed:
Increased stability, especially in Vista (less BSODs, less "driver has stopped but recovered" messages, etc)
Increased frame rate in games
Games no longer go black for brief moments.

GMA 3xxx users FINALLY get HARDWARE vertex shader support enabled!
This allows games that wouldn't play due to a lack of vertex shader support to finally be able to be played.

Stuff now WORKS on the 965G and G33! The framerates are just barely playable but it will be fine for the occasional gamer. (I do suggest a REAL card though, low 20s-low 30s FPS is not what I call good performance)

Now I don't personally use the Intel GMA chipset (I have a REAL video card!), but ALL my roommates do. Their PCs run better, stay running longer between reboots and they can actually fire up some of the older games and PLAY them.

What do you mean a "real video card"? Do you mean as in a high end 3d graphics card? because the GMA chipset is a high end GPU but is ment for workstation use not gaming.

Umm.... no it's NOT a high end card for anything! It doesn't even have dedicated VRAM. No self respecting graphics workstation will use the Intel GMA as it's primary video display. No self respecting gamer will use it either. No imaging professional will go for it either.

It's meant for BUSINESS use, when people say workstation, they usually mean graphics or technical workstation, which the GMA is unsuited for.

When you share RAM bandwidth between a GPU and a CPU, the CPU and the GPU is slowed down. When both have their own memory and memory busses, the speed increase is dramatic.

By real video card I mean I have a GeForce 7800GT. Not the latest card but it will beat the shit out of any integrated thing out there in 2D, 3D and image quality.

Workstation term is used for BUSINESS use. Even technical workstations use the GMA chipset and there are GMA video cards not just built-in. Hard to find yes but they're out there.

GMA based video cards? Ummm...such an animal doesn't exist! Intel hasn't made a discreet graphics chip since the i740 family!

Most in the industry make a distinction between Business Class PCs and "Workstation Class" Open up the two and see the difference.
