Connecting a printer wirelessly

Well, this is definitely a new one for me. We just got a HP 4385 with a built-in wireless card. I'm attempting to connect it to our already existing network.

I turned the wireless feature on for the printer. It specified in the instructions that the SSID of the printer needed to be exactly the same as that of the previously existing network. That's done. Added the same WEP encryption code that our network has as well.

This printer is connected to my dad's laptop through USB. The laptop is wireless. The laptop is capable of seeing the printer through the USB connection and is also able to see the wireless network that the printer creates. Issue is, my PC (desktop connected directly to the router) can't see anything, nor can the desktop downstairs running a PCI WiFi card.

Any ideas? I enabled sharing through Printers and Faxes as well. I attempted to connect to the network (or at least see it) through the HP application on my PC and it says it can't find anything. I went through my router as well and the only devices it sees are the three computers.

So basically, it seems like the printer is creating a separate network and that despite renaming it, it's still not connecting directly to the previously existing network. That's the only thing HP said I needed to do. And I'm not sure since I can't access it through the router or anything else how I was supposed to edit the name without simply using the wireless application on the laptop. Maybe I did something wrong there.

Any help is appreciated guys.

Did you install the software on all the computers? Do you have a firewall running, and if so have you allowed the IP of the printer? My HP 3310 AIO wireless works flawlessly on all our wired, and wireless computers.

No firewalls besides the Windows one on each which is automatically configured to work with wireless printers by default.

And no, I haven't installed the software on the unit downstairs. But then again, my computer which does have it can't see anything.

When you installed it, did you select "Install as network printer", and wait for it to find the printer?

Follow these instructions exactly, including the connecting and disconnection of the USB cable for it to configure correctly.
