Computer Help

My computer will just shut down on its own. I will open up a window and it will just shut down. Sometimes it will let me be on for half hour then shut down other times it will just shut down right away.

Any ideas?

Sorry but it could be anything from spyware to a bad motherboard

Maybe your CPU is overheating. Download RivaTuner, Speedfan, or Everest and see what the temps are. Also, what are the specs?

Get some compressed air spray can and blow out your CPU fan. Check case fans for dust/operation.

Doubt the CPU is overheating 99% of motherboards these days have a little alarm that will go off for a few seconds to a minute then shut down. Unless you don't have the little internal speaker installed in the system.

Go ahead and clean out the computer with some compressed air then try it out, while you're at it do a spyware check.

It hasnt done it since I posted lol. When I'm not so tired I will look for the compressed air and do that.

I know it's an old post, but also if you have a possible overheating issue, pull the heatsink off the proc and apply new thermal paste (The silver kind....forgot the exact name). There might be an air bubble between the sink and the proc. Unlikely, but stranger things have been know to happen. The compressed air idea is also a very good approach as well.

Not to keep bringing up an old thread but you still have the computer? I will take it off of your hands if you do. I am always looking for a good challenge and need a second computer any ways.

Do you want just the tower or the monitor as well? My mom owns a 2 story house with a full attic and a full basement so I normally store some times in the attic and thats where I just put the tower and monitor. The computer wont even turn on.

Hey man, if you need parts or whatever, I have TONS of stuff that I could give you. Most of it just sits around. I even have a WORKING Packard Bell 33Mhz desktop. Amazing 3.1 is still on it and functioning.
