Cool Smart Saw

To sum it up, its a table saw that can determine if your trying to saw someones head off or whether your just cutting wood. I'd have to see it in person to believe it though...

Quote:
The SawStop system works by recognizing the difference in the electrical properties of wood and a user. The system induces a high-frequency electrical signal on the blade of a table saw and monitors this signal for changes caused by contact between the blade and a user's body. The signal remains unchanged when the blade cuts wood because of the relatively small inherent electrical capacitance and conductivity of wood. However, when a user contacts the blade while the saw is operating, the electrical signal changes because of the relatively large inherent capacitance of the user's body.

The third video is the best. Interesting to say the least. But to counter milewsky80's argument, being someone who has cut their finger on a similar device, that blade reacted to the hot dog a lot faster than I reacted to my finger almost getting lopped off. My reaction time is pretty darn quick but that little flesh wound on that hot dog is nothing compared to the huge gash I have on my finger which cut a couple tendons and a nerve. It's basically the difference between a band-aid and 2 hours of surgery and months of rehab. It's a great idea!!!

That is very neat. Can't wait to see the infomercials for it..

"Gosh Mike, I just loped off three of my fingers with this old table saw"

"Here Jimmy, try this new Sawstop system! You can also staunch that bleeding with the free chamoise cloth we'll include with the next 100 orders!" :mg:
