My brother one time had a Yankees hat on with some kind of Chinese character on it when we went to go eat at a Chinese restaurant. We got to talking about it, and thought it'd be funny as hell if the character read something like "sucks" or something and the joke would be on all the Yankee fans who thinks it's just a neat hat.
So we asked our waitress what it meant, and she started to laugh and told us to hold on. We thought for sure it probably insulted either the Yankees or the person wearing the hat, or worse, it insults Chinese waitresses or something.
Then this big Chinese dude came out from the kitchen and told us to show him the hat. I'm now thinking maybe we should have just minded our own business. He then looked at it, and without any emotion at all, he says "It means 'DYNASTY'".
This was a few years back, so I guess it was appropriate.
