You had to know alot to get out of school in Kansas... in 1895.

It's been waayyyy too long to remember little details like that!

But being a Surveyor I do know that 640 rods (perimeter)/4 = 160 rods (per side)/4 = 40 chains (per side).
So the square farm is 40 x 40/10 = 160 acres ...

I'm sure if you took someone from 1895 and handed them a test from 8th grade today.

They would have a hard time answering the questions as well.

At least with the math, the numbers never got very big. Nothing like cheap small prices back in the day. Damn inflation, math would be so much easier without it!
