The Toyota did not cause the wreck. It was an innocent victum of a bad driver running into the back of it. TRD finished a strong 2nd. Longs like a good year for truck racing now that all makers are equal. Toyota is here in trucks on the track and the street. Just can't wait for them to be in cup racing.
Originally posted by irishred except they wont be in cup racing, and they did cause the wreck...but whatever, they can keep running their 9/10ths truck until they feel they are done
"Toyota's showing may have been a sign of things to come. Most inside racing circles feel the Japanese automaker will infiltrate NASCAR's biggest series, the Nextel Cup, in the next few years"
Just can't wait for Nissan and Honda to join in on fun. In the next few years Toyota,Nissan, and Honda are going to do to the truck market what they did to the car market. Nascar trucks and cars will be great marketing for them. TRD will show those old boys how to run a racing program. Yates and Roush are already worried and are smart enough to adapt.

all i have to say is id like to see a NA toyota V8 NASCAR NEXTEL cup motor, they dont have the stuff to do it, i mean christ every fast car they've ever practically made is boosted somehow and not by displacement.

The truck motor is a NASCAR V8. Thats how Dodge started its engine program. Toyota's first engine had over 50 more HP then Ford,Chevy or Dodge with the same rules. NASCAR had to make Toyota have smaller valves to equalize the field. There reliability was great also for the first speedway race(what else would you expect from Toyota). I don't think Toyota(TRD) will have a problem when it moves to cup car races. Let's hope Ford gets its way and NASCAR allows OHC and FI very soon.
Nissan in the Truck Series too?
Nissan, gearing up to launch a full-size pickup truck later this year, may race in a top pickup truck league of NASCAR, in an effort to promote the truck. Larry Dominique, chief product specialist for Nissan's full-size pickup truck and sport-utility vehicles, said NASCAR has contacted and asked Nissan whether the Tokyo auto maker is interested in taking part in its Craftsman Truck race series. Though there are some obstacles, including a sizable investment needed to develop race-ready pickup trucks, Dominique said Nissan told NASCAR it wanted to keep the dialogue open and learn more about the series.(Yahoo Biz via WSJ)(2-21-2003)

Maybe a stock street Titan compared to a decal headlight NASCAR truck. In race trim they would all be compatative. Everything rear of the hood is the same on all NASCAR trucks now. In stock trim pickup trucks are all bricks. CD's of about .43-.45
Originally posted by irishred i know they are all bricks, they are trucks, they don't have the option to be as slippery as cars, because they have to be large
Thats why the truck race was so much better than the Nextel cup race. The trucks poke such a big hole in the air, you can get a draft 1/2 a lap back. In the Nextel race if you got 50 yards back you lost the draft. Thats why the packs were so spread out and it was a a boring race. Maybe Nextel should dirty those cars up and have better racing at speedway tracks.
why? so that everyone runs right on each other's tails and then we have not only the big one, but the big two, and big three? if the second group of cars doesnt have the power to use their drafts to catch the first group, they shouldn't win, period, so why give them the chance
