new Dodge info

Dodges in 2005? UPDATE 2: many readers have asked what Dodge model will run in 2005 as the Intrepid will no longer be made. Have heard the Chargers, the Stratus [Prowler? just kidding...], Friday, Claire B. Lang of NASCAR Radio on XM Satellite Radiom, talked to a Ddoge Rep. who said they are still racing Intrepids in 2004, and not sure what is up for 2005, said Dodge already knows, but no one else does. I have not heard past the few rumors posted here. I was told my a Dodge PR person, that the Dodge teams were told to refer their cars as a 'Dodge' NOT a 'Dodge Intrepid' plus the 2004 headlight decals do not match up with an Intrepid. Past news on my Past Dodge News and links page.(3-6-2004)
UPDATE: John Fernandez, director of Dodge motorsports operations, confirmed Saturday the manufacturer will submit a new entry to replace the Intrepid for competition in NASCAR beginning with the 2005 season. Since its return to NASCAR in the 2001 season, Dodge has used the Intrepid, but parent company DaimlerChrysler has elected to stop production of the street version of the vehicle after this year. "NASCAR would very much like us to run models that are current production models. With the Intrepid going away this year, we have been working very closely with NASCAR to try figure out what we're going to do in the future and specifically next year to make sure we have a product on the race track that will look like and sound like a car that we have on the road," Fernandez said. "What I can't tell you is what exactly that car is. But next year you can look for us to have a new product out there on the track." Fernandez said with NASCAR's common templates, it is difficult to get any race car to resemble a production vehicle. He said Dodge is more concerned with manufacturer recognition by fans rather than specific type of vehicle. "We will certainly try to distinquish our car as much as we possibly can and NASCAR likes to have model designations out there," he said. "In truth, what we are trying to do is show the public that we have Dodge-brand products out there. If they see our cars, we would like for them to recognize them as Dodges; if they recognize them as Dodge Intrepids that's even better." Any new car model to be considered for competition in the 2005 season, must be submitted for initial consideration no later than July 1, 2004, according to Nextel Cup rules.(ThatsRacin.com)(3-7-2004)
UPDATE 2: DaimlerChrysler's current focus is on building distinctive cars, and its submission for the 2005 NASCAR season will have a retro look and name -- Magnum and Charger have been mentioned. Dodge's target date to complete the car is June 1 so it can be submitted to NASCAR by July 1.(FoxSports/Sporting News)(3-8-2004)

It would be hard to race something that looks like a brick(300C or Magnum)

i think they should make a street version of a nascar, i love the way that body looks, although it might bit a bit small for the streets. maybe they'll surprise us all and make a new superbird....

Superbird was Ply. Charger Daytona was Dodge. Nascar' Bill France outlawed the winged cars they were too good and fast. My best guess would be a Stratus look until the 2006 Charger i hope comes out. Time will tell.

i see stratus, since it is almost as big as the monte carlo...and it can be a nice car, plus that is what is used in NHRA Pro Stock, and it is holding its own against the smaller grand ams and cavaliers...but my money is on the stratus

My guess is, with all the common templates in NASCAR, all they will do is change the decals on the car to whatever model name they decide to use and make the grill opening look similar.

It's going to be the Charger. Or something that resembles it.

They've announced they're building it and it may be out by the end of the year.

That's the surprise vehicle that's been talked about in the past few weeks. Dodge now says ten new vehicles this year.

This morning on CNN the showed on bottom in the lettering. The Return of the Dukes of Hazards DC said the Dodge Charger will return for 2006. Now if they only build one like the concept car a few years ago. And not that ugly 300C box.

From AutoExtremist today:

DaimlerChrysler, Dodge. According to Automotive News, Dodge will get a sport sedan version of its new LX rear-wheel-drive program in 2005. The LX cars will make their debut this spring, with the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Magnum SportWagon hitting the streets in late April. The new Dodge will be called the Charger, and it is said to have a very aggressive and sleek design, which will make it a natural to replace the Intrepid in NASCAR. Automotive News also reported that DaimlerChrysler has big plans for the LX cars in terms of creating s series of new cop cars. We can just imagine the brutish-looking Magnum in Michigan State Police blue right now...
