That's plate "racin"

Michael Waltrip I think has the right idea; don't allow any reinforcement of the front bumper other than what is there to maintain nose integrity. I say allow the teams to reinforce the hell out of the area immediate the radiator and behind the nose and make the nose piece easy to replace in the pits without losing a lap (like the open wheels). Starting at the back of the pack at Daytona or Dega is probably a benefit! This makes it easier to recover if someone stops in front of you and you have no choice and provides motivation to stop this bump drafting madness.

Of course, the wrecks this week didn't appear to be cause by bump drafting, just good ole dumb drivers. Of course, you can't expect even drivers at this level to go 500 miles at speeds approaching 200 MPH three and four wide racing inches from each other and not make mistakes!

And I also agree with Mickey that they NEED to put those SAFER barriers ALL AROUND the track both inside and out! These guys can seriously crash anywhere at anytime.

I think *IF* NASCAR did this they *might* have a slightly safer race. Of course the "fans" love this crap and I think it's because of the Big One.

One thing is for sure, these plate races need to be for exhibition only (no points; maybe a purse otherwise no one will show up to run) or, at the very least, take Dega out of the Chase. It's just not fair for the chasers when there is such a high liklyhood of getting tangled up in someone elses mess.

I'm glad to see DJ win one for a change!

Just get rid of the plate's. Shit they ran faster in 1969 than they do now. And the tires and the cars where not near as safe as they are now. And they did not have the big ones like they do now.

I hear ya but you can't blame NASCAR for not wanting to deal with another 1955 Le Mans like accident like what nearly happened in 1987 when Bobby Allison went airborne and nearly into the stands. I do think that plate racing is safer for the fans even if it's considerably more dangerous for the drivers.

Pros or cons of plate racing, once they unleashed that monster they created the equalivent of crack to the hoards of NASCAR fans. Even losing Earnhardt wasn't enough to squelch that jones.

ok heres my thought, they run the plates to "slow the cars down". so why not pull the plates of and give the guys back some horse power, then make the cars fit short track templetes. also stand the rear wing up to about 75-80 degrees. utilizing short track areo rules would by default slow them way down, probably slower than what they run now. then to eliminate the bump drafting out of the mix, take all unnecesary reinforcement out of the frontend. then see what happens.

I think those races are crazy. I'm surprised there aren't more seriously injured drivers. They way plate racing is today is just plain crazy to me. Always a big one. Seems like more cars take off and fly / twist now too.

Another idea reduce the Motor size from 358 CID to under 300 CID.

i agree you need to take the aero out of the equation, or at least make it less of the equation. and get rid of those plates. its hard to call daytona and talledega "drivers skill" races when everbody is just bunched up riding wheel to wheel waiting for the big one at 85% for the 1st 400 miles. they need to give a car the ability if set up properly with good handling and engine to be able to pull away from the pack.

bring it back to the 80's.....
