Busch, McMurray Changing Rides

Roush racing announced today that they will let Kurt Busch out of his contract to drive for Penske next season. Ganassi racing did the same for Jamie McMurray as well.

Bobby Labonte also lost his ride at Gibbs racing, the current rumour is he'll be at Petty racing. We'll see.

Rudd "taking time off", pretty much retiring, Schrader to the 21 car. Casey Mears to drive the 42.
Labonte is pretty much a lock for the Petty ride. Seems like a step in the wrong direction to me. It's wierd this year how Stewart was so strong this year and Labonte wasn't good at all. Maybe that's why he's leaving two years before his contract is up. JJ Yeley will probably move up to drive the 18 car.

I didn't really wanna see Kurt Busch leaving, but I think Jamie McMurray will be decent replacement. Mark Martin is also leaving, but if Carl Edwards continue to drive like he's doing now - Roush will win Nextel Cup next season.

Well being a Mopar fan makes it a good fit for us. Labonte has had the worst luck of any driver this year. I didn't know he had two more years to go on his contract but I do hope he winds up at Petty. He can only help that organization.

Mark said last week that he'd run another year. He's a class act. The way Edwards is running I wouldn't count him out this year. If Stewart or Johnson has a bad day Carl could be on top. It'll be interesting to watch. Biffle still has an outside shot but thats about it for this season.

Mark running another season is really sad. All the hype about being his last season in Cup and all the special things that various people have done for him were for nothing. It sucks Jack would put Mark in the position he did. I can't believe how hard of a decision it was for Mark to sign on for another season. It sucks for his family who I'm sure was looking forward to him being around a whole lot more. Don't get me wrong, being a big fan of Mark's I'm glad he'll be around next season, but at the same time you know down deep it's not what Mark really wanted...

Blame Kurt Busch, not Jack Roush. Mark made decision at the beginning of the season that he's gonna retire and Jamie McMurray was supposed to be his replacement. But then, in the middle of the season, Busch decided to leave too, so Jack Roush is left with one driver short.

I read yesterday that Bobby Labonte will drive for Petty next season. He had 3 years left on his contract with Gibbs.

Kurt had nothing to do with it. Jamie wasn't under contract until 2007 anyway though hopes were he'd be able to get out of his current contract early. If he didn't Jack still had a 1 year gap to fill in the 6 car. But now, even with Kurt leaving, Jack could have found another driver. He didn't have to pressure Mark into going back on his word to his family and fans...

I still don't know why Busch would want to leave Roush. Doesn't make sense to me. Not even a full year after winning the championship.

Because he's not #1 driver for Roush anymore. In fact, there are 4 other drivers that are better than him (Edwards, Biffle, Martin, Kenseth).

I agree Red Star but he won a championship with what I think is the best organization in Nascar, it doesn't get any better than Roush and he gave him his start as well. What about loyalty ? Sorry I think Busch is an ass.

I heard on the radio today that Kurt has been suspended by his team for the last two starts of the season (if I remember right) because he got in trouble with the Phoenix PD for reckless driving. Guess he couldn't wait to get back to the track. Dumbass.

Edit: Story

So what? There's probably 30 drivers out there that would kill to be #5 on the list of Roush drivers. It's the most rounded team in NASCAR right now. If I was Jack and anybody wanted to leave because they thought they could do better elsewhere I'd show them the door without even a second thought about it. It's not like Kurt is going to a bad team (*cough* Bobby Labonte *cough*) and he may do very well next year. But why give up what he had???

Yep, but Kurt Busch is not one of them. He was #1 driver for Roush last season - this year he's #5. And it looks like next season each team will be allowed to have only 4 drivers (instead of 5) so God-knows-what would happen to him.

And even though Roush Racing is probably the best team in NASCAR, it looks like they won't win title in Nextel or Busch.
