Kinda reminds me of that time period from 97-00 when professional wrestling was the most popular thing going on. Now, nobody gives a shit. Why is the same thing happening in NASCAR? I have a couple of theories. #1: The COT has taken away any competitiveness, and #2: People are tired of seeing the same drivers win every week. That's why I hardly watch races anymore, it's always down to either a Hendrick, Roush, or RCR car. Wake me when a Dodge actually wins a race, and REALLY wake me up if that Dodge is not Kasey Kahne.

" Sky-high ticket prices, empty seats, market oversaturation, too many sponsors creating a paralyzing amount of message clutter, the abandonment of traditional dates and race tracks, cookie-cutter cars that bear no resemblance to recognizable production car versions, too many races, etc., etc., etc. "

So true, so true....

I look at history when NASCAR used to use STOCK cars..... it's just not fun if everyone has the same basic car going around the track at 180MPH...... and what's with this bump drafting crap!?!

When they started banning engines back in the 70's it all went to hell..... innovation went down the shitter. The racetrack was a great place to test new designs. The Superbird.... now THAT was innovative! Getting NASA to design the aerodynamics package was a great idea.

This is the big reason I stoped watching it. Has anybody noticed in Wal-Mart alone there is NASCAR brand BBQ sause, Smoked sausage, And Sausage Biskets. They just got too big for there own good. I always said when NASCAR falls on there ass cause they loose popularity I will laugh my ass off. Well

I said it last year they are going to be 1/2 size or less in 5 years. Poor Toyota must be shitting King Size Bricks right about now. After paying a king size ransom to get into Nascar. I only hope the big 3 gets their head out of their ass's and get out now. Or at least 2 of them. Then it would just kill Nascar (no Ricer IROC 500) for good. Then maybe we will get some kind of real stock car type racing bodies and motors. Not that i real care any more. I only watch one whole race this year anyways. I am having too much fun with the new Mustang and car club events. To watch Nascar anyways.

The whole thing itself is too stupid for me to care about.

I wonder if part of the decline could be in part due to Toyota's arrival. I don't watch Nascar let alone follow it but a co-worker of mine loved Nascar and said that last season would be his last because Nascar was letting Toyota race. I don't know how many more Nascar devotees are like that, but I'm sure that he isn't the only one.

I agree with everybody on this one. I also think it's a bit of Nascar's (the France family) arrogance. That plus the fact there aren't any rules. I mean they have a rule book but there are different rules for different teams. I don't care what the France family says. They may not outright fix a race but they sure have ways to make it easier for one of their golden boys to win. So many people tell me they stopped because of that. They feel it's a lot like wrestling except they always say 'wrestling is fixed, we know that'. Mysterious cautions when the race sponsor just happens to be sponsoring one of the cars for just that race. Amazing how often that kind of stuff happens.

Yet I still watch it because I love racing. I wish trans-am would make a comeback but right now it doesn't seem like anything comes close to Nascar for attention. The networks also don't seem too interested in showing any racing but Nascar.

I've been waiting for this to happen. I wonder why there hasn't been any mentions to speak of about this occuring because Toyota is in the game now.

What they should do to kick it up a notch (since it's always been at rock-bottom) is...add a...speed bump!

**sigh**

Yet another, they're going around in circles argument.

The same people who diss NASCAR probably watch football (a sport that goes back in forth on the same field), basketball (back and forth on a court) baseball (2nd most boring sport), golf (THE most boring sport), I mean do I need to go on? All racing is going to be starting and finishing in the same place, with the exception of rally and drag racing.

It's funny that NASCAR seems to be on the decline in the U.S.A. Here in Canada, or at least in my part of the country, it is growing huge.

People who had not even heard of a stock car are now entering Nascar fantasy pools, wearing the hats and t shirts, watching the races etc.

For the past 10 years I had to travel to Montana to purchase anything racing related, now I can go across the street in my small town and get tons of stuff. There are entire stores devoted to selling Nascar merchandise in one half and NHL (hockey) stuff in the other.

Not to mention every truck with a 24 or a 8 in the back window.

I have to defend the going around in circles comment just about once a week, but there is alot more to it. I used to bug my brother about it all the time when he watched and I didn't. But most of the time when someone actually watches a race, they are hooked after that. Speed, sound, color its all there...
