BCS National Championship Game?

OK, so who's it gonna be? A big upset at #1 again and LSU is out. #4 Missouri takes care of #2 Kansas and #3 West Virginia rolls over #20 UConn.

So, it looks like Missouri becomes #1, West Virginia moves up to #2 and Ohio State sitting at idle with their season over moves up two spots from #5 to #3.

Now the BIG games next week. West Virginia should handle Pitt (although the "Backyard Brawl" is never an easy game for either team any given year) and then you've got the Big12 Championship Game with Missouri facing Oklahoma.

I see it as this:

If WVU and Kansas win, that is your BCS Nat'l Championship Game.

However if either one loses, it opens the door for the Ohio State Buckeyes to play in New Orleans instead of Pasadena.

Personally, I think WVU will roll in Pitt but Missouri has a fair chance of losing to Oklahoma even playing in a neutral site. I just never would have thought the Buckeyes would get this close again to possibly reaching the Nat'l Championship game!

Thoughts?

I second Candyman's analysis and opinion of the situation... As a Buckeye fan, I shall be a strong Oklahoma and Pitt supporter next weekend... Please don't take that personal if you are supporting Missouri or West Virginia.... Remember, as much as we hate MICHIGAN in Buckeye territory.......

I hope we get to play WVA, it would be the perfect opportunity to redeem ourselves. ESPN is writing how we should be Mizz fans because we'll get embarassed again, but we could tear that team up. There isn't a single defense in that whole conference and UConn was only a ranked team because of that fair catch bullshit (and thats in a shitty conference).

I don't know if OKlahoma can win though, it'll be tough.

Wow! So both #1 and #2 lose again in the same weekend! What a CRAZY season! Huge shock with Pitt beating WVU on the road. I kinda felt Oklahoma was going to beat Missouri...but surely not Pitt taking down WVU!

So, after three weeks at idle for the Buckeyes, and since there loss to Illinois being #1, they have moved all the way from #7 to #1 to finish out the season back again in the BCS National Championship Game against LSU!

This really should be a great game unless the layoff once again affects the Bucks like it did last year. That's the bad thing about the Big Ten Conference ending their season two weeks earlier than the other major conferences.

Sure helped the Bucks this year though, back at #1 in the country, Yeah boyeee! GO BUCKS!

The layoff had nothing to do with it last year, thats just what the media hyped up. We had more of a problem with Troy Smith winning the heisman trophy and being out of practice and getting stuffed full of food without workouts (he admitted to getting a little fat on the banquet circuit) and then with our team getting full of themselves. That, put together with the Ginn incident on the first play is what happened to us.

Tressel has won off of the longer big ten layoff several times, and if anything it should help our team. Also it will give beanie's ankle time to heal and be 100 percent. He was still hurting while he stomped Michigan.

Just hope that Dorsey isn't 100 percent, and that will give us a nice extra boost for our O line since he doesn't have a good replacement so he'll play hurt.

My car won't ever be done because I'm insane. That is all.

I am soooo glad that WVU didn't get to the title game. Nothing against the team, they never deserved to be that high in the polls. Strength Of Schedule and non-conference schedule has to be a key factor in where a school is ranked. If they did that though, some schools would never be as high as they are today.

I am still disappointed that LSU made it. A two loss team never deserves a chance at a title game if there are one loss teams in the mix too. Kansas was good enough to get in, so was Oklahoma.

Please, do not let me get started on Hawaii and how they got robbed of a top 5 ranking. Please understand I do not support them not do I really like the team, but any one with an undefeated record should be no less then top 5 especially when the rest of the 119 teams have at least one loss.

This very same thing happened to my school in 1999. We went undefeated and the best ranking we got was 10th and we were robbed of a BCS game even though we would have beat the heck out of anyone we played. We went to the Motor City Bowl that year and beat BYU 21-3. Pennington to Moss was a lethal combination in college and made us a top offense in the country. We had one of the top ranked defenses in the country that year also. We were robbed and we know it. The BCS doesn't care about the small schools. Sure you have Boise St. and Utah ruining it every now and then but for the most part it is the Ohio St, Oklahoma, Texas, USC that are getting the bowl games when smaller schools are more deserving.

In Some way I agree but then, take a look at any other professional sport. I realize they all have playoff systems, but there have been many 9-7 teams of late from the NFL who have gotten to play in the Championship Game or even get into the SuperBowl (as well as win it). Even in baseball, there have been many recent wild card teams who have advacned to the World Series (and won it).

Does their record mean they shouldn't have the opportunity to play in those big games? They did what they had to do at the right time and peaked when they needed to. I'm not trying to defend the BCS or LSU as I am 100% a Bucks fan and the BCS still needs some modifications to get it right.

Really though, based on what each school did to get here accounted for the BCS results. Both teams won their conference (convincingly) over their rivals. So in a sense, those are their playoff games and they should be rewarded.

Just another perspective to this great thing called NCAA Football!

Guess that is one way to look at it. I still maintain that OK deserves it more, but I understand where you come from. Honestly, I do think it will be a good game. Probably not like the TX/USC match up from a few years ago, but still a great game and one that will go down to the wire.
