Hit and Run

Well, today I had what I have been trying to avoid (so far successuflly), damage to the Trep, that wasn"t there before.

This situation is pissing me off quite a bit, even though it is not a lot of damage. Maybe some of you can give me some advice on what I should do.

Here is what happend, I came out of the Sience Center at the College to day at around 3pm. I had parked right at the front parking lots pretty close to the doors... the pole position if you want. So I come out and I see a note under my windshield... At first I though it was one of those annoying flyers they pass out illegally in the lot, but nope.... here is what it said:

"Driver,
I saw a car clip yours on the passenger side as they pulled into the spot next to you.
Their plate number is;... "
Unfortunately the note didnt give me a name of the guy who wrote it, since I did want to thank him, around here its not very commen that anyone even gives a damn.

Crap... was my first reaction. so I look in the back... some damage... a bigger scratch along side of the bottom of the bumper, it ripped that cover thing of the inside of the tire oppening off a little, went along my tire and scratched up that a bit (not moe then hitting a curve though) and scratched over my rim.... the damage is probably easily fixable by cleaning and waxing it right, but at some areas on the bumper and the rim it went down to the metal. Even though you can barely see it, it pisses me off like nobodys business.

I decided to call the cops on that male genitalia, just because he ran. (the note cam obviusly from a third person. and the car with that plate was nowhere to be found).
So a couple of minutes later a police officer came by took some notes, and called in the plate... I overheard the dispatch saying "88 Buick, we are sending a unit out"... I had to get my license wich I left in the car, and I didnt hear the address... a couple of minutes later, the officer on scene calls in and tells my cop, that the house is probably vacant.... CRAP!... So I went to take some pictures, you never know ( Im going to try to add them later)

So the officer tells me by Tuesday I can get the report from them at the station. This is my first intereaction with the american police (or any polive for that matter) where I am not on the screwed side of the law, so I was a bit dissapointed by the amound of action that was taken.

So this is where I am... not a lot of damage, but still, I probably will go to the insurance.... my insurance dude is pretty cool, since we got all of our cars insured with him, he likes us a bit and gives us a lot of bonuses and such).
I assume that the guy who hit me doesnt have insurance or anything like that, so probably I wont even get anything, but the fact that he ran, pissed me off so much that I just want to try to get as much money out of him as possible.

you know what, I dont know if this is against page policy or not (if not just delete the number), but here is the guys plate number> New Mexico DJP677.

If anyone can do anything with that number, please do, I would really like to visit him with some friends if he turns out to be uninsured.

tata,

Euro

the damage is as Isaid rather tiny, but its the principle of the thing that gets me

Even with the note, you will not have much success going after the other individual. That good Samaritan in person, would be necessary, and even then, there are too many bigger fish to fry. Sucks, but that's reality.

ug, looks like that damage won't be too much more than the deductable :( If he's not insured you'll end up paying for 2/3 of it anyway. Hope they find the twerp.

well, thursday, I finally got the police report (over a week after I was supposed to get it).... and I started laughing in the police station.... the cop in there thought I went crazy.

I saw the name and address of the other guy for the first time... turns out I know her.... she is a math professor at my college... thank good she only teaches lower stuff, so I never actually had her or wont have her as a teacher.... isnt that messed up? Well, my insurance guy wasnt there and the other lady working there told me to come back monday, since he can pull a little more stuff for me (I get a lot of perks from him, since my dad insured all of our cars and about 15 german airforce vehicles through him )

This ought to be fun next week...

Yesterday someone clipped me in my university parking lot, and then had the nerve to leave his car (old Eagle Vision) parked right beside mine. Same parking lot, same morning, we came back to my girlfriend's Civic to find not one, but TWO flat tires.

not a good day either hu?

well I finally managed to get a hold of the teacher... I had too, because the retareded ass pigs in this town dont do their job right... apparently wasnt the cop just late, but he forgot to fill out half the stuff he was supposed to. so Ithere was no insurance on there, nothing.

So I ended up talking to the teacher... apparently it was her son (he is in a whole world of sh*t now ).. she didnt even know anything about that until I came in her office, so the cops didnt even notify her.... "to pretend to protect and do serve doughnuts"...

I thought I let you guys know how this turned out:

I decided to go to an expensive body shop to get an estimate for myself, to see if it was even worth it... they only too kthe damage on the bumper... 480ish dollars... nt bad and definetly worth it, so I show the estimate to the teacher.... too much for her to handle privately, so she gives me here insurance information. Took me many long phone calls, but I had an appointment with one of the Allstate car reviewing people, who would come down from santa fe.
Well I went there on my appointment just to find out that the guy wont come down here because there wasnt enough appointments and they forgot to tell me... idiots. So I bitched a little to the lady behind the desk who wanted to set up another appointment for march 4th... well thats my birthday so I said **** no. Then she finally figured out that another body shop in town does estimates too, so I directly went to them. The guy there took a look at the damage, took a couple of pictures, looked up my wheels on the internet and told me he will call me later.
The next day I go back there... total estimate: 718 Dollars and some change... well I was happy.. apparently my rims are worth twice as much as I paied for them.... go me .. im guessing he looked up the wrong ones, but what do I care.
So today I got a letter in the mail from Allstate telling me that it got approved... woohoo...
scratch my car any time, just leave me your info .. 718 dollars, that I sure wont use for those two scratches... imma treat my car to a nice waxing and cleaning for that

What are you going to do with the 718 besides the clean and wax? Getting the car any new mods?
