Am I lacking in sensitivity?

I saw the lights in my mirror several hundred feet back. Medium traffic on a freeway, well past dark. Guy must have been doing 100 or better in a 60 zone, driving an RX7, I think. He was cutting in and out of lanes and endangering everyone on the road. About a football field in front of me he decided to cut from the left lane of the 3 lane road all the way to the right and go down an exit ramp. Unfortunately for him, he forgot it was winter and a lot of sand from the road treatments had accumulated to the side where cars had thrown it.
Well, he steered very close to the concrete divider and got into the sand. Result-- a 360 + enough extra to head on into the concrete wall on the right.
I sincerely hope he wasn't hurt, but to tell the truth, I almost died laughing at the time. If anyone ever deserved to self destruct, this maniac did.

I don't think cluelessinMO was lacking any sensitivity at all. In fact I think you were extra sensitive, you sensed the presence of a moron while he was still behind you.
The question is are you also psychic ? As the clown was passing you, did you happen to think to yourself...."that idiot is going to crash" ?

I've hoped this would happen, but its never happened to anyone around me thankfully.

Sure do. But God gives people free will and their own right to choose their actions. This guy chose to be a knob. And he f'd up. The same thing could happend to any one of us if we decided to drive like an a'hole.

Well, if that was his final destination i guess he got there...one way or another right? I have little sympathy for people who drive like that. There were 2 of them drafting eachother yesterday on the way home from work. They were actually making traffic worse by their actions. That's when i love to see the cops sitting behind the overpass supports as they go flying past.

On the other hand, you don't know where he was heading. My grandfather was rushed to the hospital about a year back, and I fucking flew down the highway to get there. Now granted there's a pretty high chance that the guy you saw was just a complete idiot, and to be honest I'm glad it was him and only him that was the victim of his douchebaggery, but there's a chance that he was rushing to an emergency somewhere.

An emergency may be a self justified reason for driving fast (I've been there myself). But is not a good reason to drive stupid. Crashes are not caused by speed alone, they are caused by driving stupid. Sometimes driving fast is stupid. In the first post of this thread, it looks like the driver over estimated the capabilities of his car. This would be stupid.

I've been in the position of driving fast to get someone to the hospital in an emergency situation. But there's driving fast, and there's driving stupid. This guy was alone, so he wasn't taking someone to the hospital (unless they were slumped over in the seat). And driving like a maniac to get to the hospital because someone has been injured, etc, isn't justified; the person at the hospital will not live or die because you did or didn't get there.

also, if you rush rush rush and get into a wreck, you will be right next to that person in the hospital. also, for the average person, what can you really do for someone in the hospital? not like the dr is gonna say "thank god you came. NOW we can begin treatment..."
