What $2600 dollars worth of damage looks like.

15 years I've been driving... I've hit two deer, but never another car. Completely clean driving record for over 6 years now... So naturally, the first time I hit another car it had to be retarded.

My brother has been living with me and parks the car half off the drive so I can get out... normally he's gone in the morning but he just switched to third shift to get hired in at Gentex so he was there.

I was late and in a hurry and totally forgot he was there (rear window was frosty, cool morning)

So the right side of my car was reduced to this:

Caught the corner of the bumper of my brothers car, his didn't give at all... bunch of rust fell off though lol

Since I've had a clean record with state farm for over 10 years I can make a claim without raising my rates... so I took it to have it appraised... thinking maybe I could just pay out of pocket to fix the quarter and buy a yard door... but just to do the quarter was over the deductible... so I'm going to make the claim and have them do it all right. New rear door, completely refinished rear bumper (YAY) few hours of bodywork on the front door and the whole side of the car painted totaled a whopping $2600 bucks. They are also going to fix a rust spot growing on the fender behind the passenger headlight (under warranty from the deer strike) so it's likely that the entire right side of the car will have new paint. Not bad for $400 bucks out of pocket.

Still feel like an idiot... but oh well... what can you do.

Dang man, shitty, but at least your getting other things fixed in the process.

I don't think these guys are the cheapest, but it's State Farm's official place and they do great work, it's the same place that put the front back on after I hit the deer a few years back. Honestly, it's the same cost for me either way

Indeed. I wish I would have hit the drivers side... I did ask them to have their PDR guy take a look at the drivers side doors while it's in... who knows... maybe I can get a "group" discount.

That damage doesn't seem like $2,600.00 worth of damage. Makes me think twice about when I see a smart ass on the road and say, hit my car, parts are cheap.

Cool beans on the repair costs on your side.

yea I could buy yard doors for 150 bucks for the pair but:

A. I can't fix that quarter panel... not right anyway
B. PBQ is a pearl paint, and every time they mix a batch its a different shade... those yard car doors would never quite match.
C. I pay for all this insurance... might as well use it... even if I half assed it myself it would cost me 400 bucks easy once it's all said and done.

That's apparently a common way for people to have accidents. One day a few years back, I decided to skip my class and slept in. When my mom was leaving the house after her lunch break to go back to work, she was used to my car being gone at that time... of course she didn't even look and backed right into it. Luckily it was bumper to bumper contact, leaving no real damage except for scuffing. That was with an '02 Trailblazer.

Then my brother backed into my car also with his Dodge Ram. Interestingly my car didn't take any damage, but his truck got dented in pretty good on the side near the rear.

Then there's the time that I had my car parked at my girlfriend-at-the-time's house. I was parked behind her dad's F-150. Unfortunately he had really bad night vision and just backed directly onto my car. His truck was untouched. My car however, took $2600 worth of damage. Must be a lucky number. Since my car was parked legally at the time of collision, his insurance covered everything, the Chrysler dealer fixed it up pretty good, got a new hood, a new headlight and some other stuff.

So, anyways, don't feel bad, I've had people do that to me 3 times, all to the same car! lol

I could be wrong, but the 2nd gens just don't look very crash friendly to me.

My first and only "accident": a young girl in a nice new BMW tears out in front of me just as I accelerate through the intersection. I drilled her right in the driver's door, denting it in pretty well. My front bumper handled it fine. My rear bumper is what sustained the impacts from the Trailblazer and the Ram.

Then there was the time that a construction barrel rolled out in front of me when I was going 65 mph, there was no time so I gripped the wheel and took it dead on. It was ejected out the back of my car flattened. The only damage I found was some paint cracked off of the bumper.

Damn Dan, are you losing your touch? $2600 is a deal, that scrape and dent goes almost the lenght of the car. Add in a whole new door, not a skin and that price is right up there.
