es 3.5 vs bmw

so friday night i was going to hang out with this girl minding my own business. then this guy in a late 90's bmw coupe (not really sure which model because it was pretty dark) rolls up and decides i really wanna hear his fart cannon and as soon as he gets there the light goes green and he does a super cool ricer drive by that definitley made him look super cool. sure enough we get stopped at the next light next to each other and he starts revving the motor. Im kinda hot-headed so i couldnt back away and decided to do the same. i throw on the need for speed hot pursuit soundtrack in the stereo because theres nothing better to drive fast too and when the light turned green i totally smoked him. The beast that is my intrepid took off like a bat outta hell and left him behind me. i hit 90 and he was still hanging on probably 6 or 7 car lengths back when unluckily i got stopped at the next light. Then he pulled up behind me and decided my car would look better covered in diet pepsi. long story short i was quite proud of the intrepid.

Yea - I kinda wonder just how important the 'street stories' section is - or it needs a disclaimer about posting in it or something...

Not sure if the general Intrepid owner pool is getting older, or the overall political correctness shift these days, but, back when I joined in 04, this section was a lot more active...

To the OP, street racing is dangerous, no doubt about it. That having been said, how many car guys haven't "punched it" on the street? Important thing is knowing when to stop. I never get out of 1st in these situations - 45mph won't kill anybody.

A good friend of mine had a 1995 BMW 530i (3.0 V8). I raced him once, no it wasn't on a track, but a deserted stretch of highway. I'm stock except for removal of spare tire / jack (70lbs), and ultra light Mustang rims (44lbs w/ tire). We were pretty even, and I'd pull a length or so every time he shifted, at 125 mph I was couple lengths ahead.

I have to agree - punching it and at low speeds - sure - but I just take real exception to the 90MPH statement especially at street level - I live about 2 blocks from the end of mainstreet - and my neighborhood street at 2 AM on friday nights 'Last Call' is bad enough - let alone a two lane travel in one direction where you can actually race.

sorry for i guess angering so many people on this site, its not like it was on a busy road i'm from the middle of no where so there wasnt anybody else on the road and its a hundred percent straight so its its not like we were in a large populated areaa where there wasgoing to be an insane pile up and crash, i think we were the only 2 cars on the road so it wasn't that big a deal. I totally agree with the whole keep it off the streets thing but empty road, dry conditions, and no one else there? its not like it was that big a deal.

This thread reminds me of some of the no so smart things I did in my old, odd looking cars.

I am pretty sure that people will race, regardless of where they are or what they drive. As much as I would prefer to keep things at the track, sometimes the means aren't always there.

In my hometown the 'track' is an older section of an airport, which isn't bad. but it's only open when the local drag racing association deems is fit for them, which works out to about 3 'fun day' events over the course of the year. Plus their 1 sanctioned race weekend. So when it comes down to it, we don't always have an easy outlet to get to the track as soon.

And I am bad for this because I do find drag racing needlessly boring, its a long process of waiting to hit the track for what maybe 30 seconds of adrenaline, and back to a long drawn out process of waiting to race again. (I understand that the size of the group attending determine's the wait period, again 3 'fun day's' a year result in a lot of waiting time)

But this is just my 2 cents, I don't endorse street racing, but on the same page I don't condemn it either. It will happen regardless of who you are or where you are.
