Saw two treps down for the count.

I went with my girlfriend's family to red lobster. We took the highway and on the way with in 100yards apart were two treps on the side of the road. A first gen and a second gen. The first gen looked like the windshield was smashed in that no one would be able to drive it. The sec gen looked like the front fender was burnt to a crisp. The whole time I was thinking about how the sec gen could of been on fire then it hit me about the fire problems a few of us had. Just gave me the chills.

Funny you should mention that because one of my classmates who also owns a 2nd gen (2002 SE if I recall correctly) ALSO has his catch on fire over the weekend. I asked him how it happened, and his friend said "Trying to be like NASCAR." I still don't know for sure, but I'll ask him for details

A buddy of mine that works for dodge told me that once they had to install a new exhaust manifold so they took out the overflow tank, fuse box and a few wires out of the way. They replaced it and hooked everything back up. They started it and the fuse box caught on fire. They pulled it back all apart again and found out they forgot to hook that ground cable back up. I doubt that ground cable caused it but you never know since our cars have crappy wiring.

Fire problems on second gens? What is going on there? I have heard of the weak fuel rails and o-rings on the first gens that cause fires, but what on the second gens?

Well I just asked my classmate (who got his car back) what happened....he said the mechanic told him that he had 2 major leaks. This doesn't really make much sense, or how this could cause a fire. His engine is a 2.7 by the way....

HAHAHAH...I wonder if that was Burples car? WIth the history of his car, and his luck, I don't doubt the car could catch fire.

Gorm, you brightened my morning. That's usually not possible before I've had my coffee.
