They put a V8 in the dakota in 02'. I mean a short cab, short bed, stripped out Dakota. We got one in a the dealer I worked at. I may be crazy, but I think it was quicker than the R/T.

The old design 4.7 V8 mated to a 5-speed manual was FASTER in both the 0-60 and 1/4 mile than the 5.9 R/T which came in auto only trim :(

This one was an auto, didn't know they had a manual option.

Wow those guys are a bunch of hillbillies.

Now if the Dakota had: real headlights, turn signals, modern transmission, Phoenix V6, four wheel drive standard-not optional.

The 4.7 seems overrated. How does Chrysler get 302hp? Does it have VCT?

1989 was the first V-8 Dakota, the Shelby. Eventually the 318 made it into 90 or 91 model year and has been an option since then. HEMI won't fit into this generation because of suspension clearance (yes it's different than the Durango)

I love the Dakota, and will be very disappointed if it's ever discontinued. Right now I have an '02 4.7 SLT QC 4x4 and have had no probs with it. I don't care if it has the best numbers. I don't look at that; I just look at what I want and what I like. I wasn't too fond of the '05's , nor the current model, but they have totally grown on me. They Dakota's are better than the Chevy's, Fords and definetly better than 'Yota's.

The problem is that there isn't any advertising on the truck. Chrysler just seems to think they since it's there, people will just stumble across it. Play upon it's features (5 star crash test, 302 horse V-8, side airbags, my gig/navigation...ect). Idiots let things just hang on the tree and did out slowly, and then wonder what the heck happened.

Yep pretty much what they did (or didn't do) with the Magnum.

For the money the Magnum is one sweet piece of machinery that hasn't had much of any effort to try and sell the damn things.

I didn't think about the Dakota until I read your post and I can't remember any ads for the Dakota. Sad isn't it.

Yeah; Chrysler's advertising does suck! They advertise for a short-time when a new design comes out; then they slow down on the ads and expect the vehicles to sell themselves; without help. The only real help that Chrysler gets is from its customers and fans. Then again; I have never seen a Dakota ad, but Ford doesnt advertise the Ranger, and Chevy doesn't advertise the Colorado either, and automakers can only advertise so many vehicles on their line; before it ends up being a waste of money. So I kinda see their side too.
