Challenger

Am i the only one that is dissapointed with the new challenger SRT???? The mustang (which i hate) has so many after market companys like shelby and roush versions of it and they crank out over five hundred horse..... and the SRT version of the challeger which is a partner Company with dodge cranks out only 425Hp..... i'm not sure off the top of my head but i think the SRT version 300C cranks out around the same amount of power as the challenger????? i wonder what a supercharged challenger would be like????

From what I've heard, they're planning on making some upgrades to the 2009 version. Let's hope this means a bigger engine. Then again, 425 bHP isn't really *that* bad. Especially since, like you said, you could supercharge it.

Anyways, when they were first planning it, it was proposed to drop the 392 Hemi from yesteryear into it, change the paint job a bit, and market it as (essentially) a beast. That engine would shoot out 525-540 bHP which would probably satisfy a bit more.

The 392 wasn't from yesteryear..it was based on the modern hemi. You can buy this motor from a couple of different sources...

If you've ever driven a SRT8 car of any variety, you'll know that these cars are fun. Trust, that 425 hp figure is underrated....significantly. Prolly closer to 450-460 based on dyno's of SRT8's!!

I don't know about 450+hp. They only run about mid 13.6 sec 1/4 mile time's. My tuned and CAI Mustang runs 13.4's with only 337 hp. Stangs due have a boat load and half. Of after market parts and upgrades to pick from. And if Dodge is going to drop the hemi motor in a few years. Because if the higher CAFE ratings. Alot of the after market Companies. Are not going to drop a boat load money, for a narrow small market segment.

If it's any consollation, my Challenger was a 4 cyl, 5 spd, so a V8 is a big upgrade.

SRT is a division of Chrysler, not a partner company. Also, price out a Rousch Stage 3 with the blower and suspension/appearance upgrades, then price out an SRT. Yes, Ford does have the better aftermarket as far as performance is concerned, but the aftermarket that Ford possesses vs. what Chrysler Corp has eclipses it more so in the high end, high dollar items more so than any other area. If Chrysler came out with the eqivalent of a Rousch stage 3, how likely would you be to buy it at its 60k+ sticker? Not many people are. Rousch makes its money in racing and moonlights in the factory upgrades with Ford's financial backing. There's a big reason why Ford is worse off than Chrysler, and financing upgrades that make no signifigant contribution to the bottom line is one of them.

The car is hardly on the street yet, give the aftermarket a few months and it will be ...mustang what mustang!

All srt's are, from Chrysler advertised to be 150 mph cars!!!!

what is the beef there?

These HEMIs don't take kindly to supercharging. Check out the items about this at LXforums.com Many of these V8s have been ruined trying this.
SRT is a part of Chrysler LLC and not an aftermarket tuner like Shelby or Roush.

Because the 6.1 was built to be a naturally aspirated motor since day one, with 10+:1 of compression. An LS7 is no better in that regard, it too, doesn't do well in forced induction.

Don't know if they exist of not, but if you can find a set of forged low compression pistons, I bet that HEMI would be a great blower/turbo candidate.

The both of those engines have explosions Problems with forced induction. Chevy used the LS3 in the blue devil vette because of this.
