Oil pump....Lincoln style

Well today I began tearing apart an 89 Lincoln Mark VII, (302 V8) owned by our own Shadowvox6 (Tom) due to a low oil pressure issue. It came apart very nicely, not one rusty bolt or swear word.

He was running about 1-2 psi at idle, causing a main bearing knock. I pulled the #7 and rear main caps to check for any damage from low oil pressure.

Some pics:

Oil Pan Removed:

#7 Rod Cap with bearing, and light scoring:

Rear main cap, moderate wear, and light scoring:

Rear main bearing crankshaft journal, light scoring:

Shavings in the oil pan from the pump, and 20 years of engine wear:

Typical rusty Ford oil pan:

Have new high-volume oil pump, pan, and gaskets coming, hopefully will be throwing it back together in the next couple days. The bearings have some moderate wear, but will survive for the time being. Tom is going to run this engine until the end and then put a nice fresh 302 (or better) in. About what I expected for a 20 year old 302.

Dan....don't forget to get some shots of the oil pump when you get it out.
Also, see if you can figure out the pogo on the idle.

As long as the pan is off of it, why not just roll out the bearings and roll in fresh ones? Shouldn't cost much, and shouldn't take more than 90 minutes to roll out all 5 mains and roll them back in... Granted, it's all over head or on your back, but perfectly do able...

Then again, Tom may want it to pop sooner than what new bearings will get ya!
