Chrysler group recalls PT Cruisers

From Automotive News:

More than 438,000 cars affected
Reuters / June 04, 2004
DETROIT -- The Chrysler group is recalling more than 438,000 PT Cruisers because power steering fluid can leak from the vehicles, causing potential engine compartment fires, federal safety regulators said on Friday.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said 438,391 PT Cruisers from the 2001-2004 model years were affected by the recall, which is a blow to the Chrysler group's recent claims about improved quality.

NHTSA said the safety defect stemmed from contact on some of the vehicles between a high pressure power steering hose and the automatic transaxle differential cover.

Chrysler group spokeswoman Curtrise Garner said there had been nine reports of underhood fires apparently caused by the problem.

"The likelihood of fires is very low," she said, adding that no injuries or deaths had been reported.

Yeah it's a shame but it sounds like a quick fix.

yea...sounds like it could be quite hazardous, but like was said..seems like a quick fix, but its no where near the blow to chrysler quality what the 11 recalls on fuckuses were to ford's...besides, i remember a foreign company having a recall not too long ago that was quite large...dont remember which one, but just shows that all companies have recalls and no matter how much "real world" testing is done, you cant find anything out until it gets to the real world

It's a shame that what fires did happen, but at least they are fixing it right away. And their not brushing off the incidnets either.
