'05 Subaru Legacy

Anyone else seen it yet? I drove one about a week ago, and I now want one.

It's moved a little upmarket from the previous generation, but that's entirely acceptable, because the Legacy is damn nice. There've been a series of changes, giving lower weight, a nicer interior, more refinement, or a variety of other things. But the most important change is the addition of boost, pushing the car up to 250hp (interestingly, the turbo engine in the Legacy is a detuned version of the 300hp motor in the WRX STi). It goes quickly (although there's no tire spin while launching, something that's odd to me after driving the Intrepid for so long), and handles and stops well. I could technically elaborate more, but it's getting late.

Pictures and other stuff can be found here

Just make sure you try other stuff in that price class... If this car were out last year I definitely would have test drove it.

That's by far the best looking Subaru ever. Has anyone seen the Sabb Version of that, it looks great too.

Heh, for that much $$$, a 300C or Magnum R/T is easily the better deal!

You thought it was an Audi ripoff in this thread.

It is a nice looking car though. I like it.

It still looks like an Audi but that's not a bad thing I like Audis.... The A4 wasn't fast enough for me and I didn't really like the interior but on the outside it's a nice looking car.

Too bad Audi A4's (Quattro) have a severe transmission problem at about 85,000 miles. There is no rebuilding it you have to buy a new one from Audi, and it costs $9,000 with labor.

I will definitely look into this as an alternative to the WRX. Nice car. Dual Climate Control is a huge plus! Now if it only offered navigation.

Just priced one out at about $30,200 MSRP. Not bad. I wonder what satellite company Subaru decided to go with. I dont see anything under XM or Sirius's website.

The Saab 9-2 is a version of the Impreza/WRX, not the Legacy.

I believe this is the same motor that is in the Forester XT. One of the magazines got 13.8 in the 1/4 and sub-6 second 0-60 times out of it in that car.

The deal breaker, red turn signals.:(
Real good sized brakes on the 2.5GT, no so good on the base, middle (limited is okay) why make 3 different brake packages for one car, drop the base model brakes (for $23)
The mileage sucks, 19/25 on premium, and Subie, put bigger tires on it 215/45 17 are too small(see Lexus IS300, that car should of had 225/45 17, it did in Japan), how about 235/45 17(can not let the WRX STi have wider tires), and keep 215/50 17 for snow tire width

I notice you are into tires big time... I don't think I knew the tires sucked on my G35 until you told me...

I don't know. It really depends on what you want. The Legacy actually has more cargo space than a Magnum (and possibly more trunk space than a 300C), it handles far better, and AWD will be a huge pulling point to many. Oh, and it's available with a stick. Additionally, it's got a marginally nicer interior. The LX's do accelerate better, and have more interior space. Me, I'd rather have a Legacy. And, you're right, Operator, it's the same basic engine (slightly different tune) as the Forrester XT, but more importantly, as the WRX STi. To me, that means that it shouldn't be too hard to get a 300hp Legacy.
