That sinking feeling at Mitsubishi

A quickie from Automotive News:

EDWARD LAPHAM COMMENTARY 7/6/04: That sinking feeling at Mitsubishi
By Edward Lapham
Automotive News / July 06, 2004
The Mitsubishi affair has become quite grim. Never mind the concern of Mitsubishi dealers in the United States about when they will get new products to sell.

And never mind the concerns about the shrinking value of DaimlerChrysler's equity investment in the ailing Japanese automaker.

As part of the company's reorganized business plan, managers who were dispatched by DaimlerChrysler to help out in Japan are being sent packing for home by Mitsubishi's brass.

The company also is firing Mitsubishi executives who are believed to have collaborated -- that is, worked too closely -- with the DaimlerChrysler execs.

All this while the CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Corp. was forced to express his shame at the annual meeting and publicly apologize to shareholders for hiding product defects and allowing the company to get so sick.

The worst part: This may not yet be the bottom.

I wonder why the need to disassociate with DCX. Maybe DCX was screwing them over somehow? It'd be interesting to know.
