GTO no flop... so there, says Lutz

All the way with GTO GM product czar Bob Lutz insists the American auto giant has no intention of dumping the Holden-built GTO coupe from its pontiac stable after sluggish initial sales and criticism of the vehicle’s
“jellybean” looks. In an interview with thecarconnection.com, Mr Lutz admitted that “maybe in retrospect, we should have done a more retro
(looking) car” than the Monaro-based coupe. However, he stressed the car was “a permanent addition” to the Pontiac range and that “the car is not a flop”.
Indeed, GoAuto understands the next generation GTO (codenamed GMX282) will be built in North America from 2007, specifically the Hamtramck plant in Detroit. More aggressive styling is a certainty.
Meantime, the car is expected to get the 6.0-litre LS2 engine and other minor tweaks next year.

No matter how hot she is, someone, somewhere, is sick of her shit....

Nope, nothing else he could say really.. but it'll probably make a few people happy to know that the next GTO is going to be built the USA, with a LS2. Give them something to look forward to i suppose. And being that it's going to be based on the Zeta platform opens up all sorts of possibilities for the next GTO, like AWD. Holden is already selling a AWD Monaro (Coupe4) GTO in Australia.

I believe that the styling will be changed slightly for the 05 model year... hood scoops and the like, something a little more aggressive i'd think to keep people interested. The basic design for that car is 6 years old... so i guess until they make a completely new one it's always going to look outdated.

You're only saying that because you've got one of the best looking cars on the road, ya lucky bastard.

Does the new GTO remind anyone else of a Cavalier/Cobalt?

I was a lot more impressed with the Fords. I thought the Falcon might be based on the Taurus platform but later found out it's RWD... it looked better than a Taurus but was around the same size... and the Futura was pretty cool looking too.

Can you believe my rental from Hertz was a Toyota Camry... it sucked I asked them if they anything local like a Holden or a Ford but all they had left was Camrys ... I hate Camrys

I have yet to see one on the road here in MN. I have started to see a lot of Magnums the last few weeks and a few 300C's.

I was going to say that too... The RX8 has been out for quite a long time and it's a rarity to see one... I like the exterior style but know a lot of people that hate them...

300Cs I see quite a few of Magnums I have only seen one... Can you imagine those poor Dodge dealers having their bread and butter #1 seller sedan being replaced by a RWD station wagon that has the styling of a brick
