Looking into buying & modifying a turbo minivan (1989-1990)

Like the title says, I'm seriously looking for a turbo minivan. I've found one but before buying it, I would like to know what I need to look for on the van so I know that everything works good. I've found one with over 200,000 kms (120 000 miles) I tested and it seems ok. My first question is: How do you know if the turbo still works? Does it stop working if it's too old or not well maintained? I do plan on rebuilding the whole engine and tranny as soon as I get it though. I will drive it in the winter and store my R/T. Anyways, to go back on topic, What would be the things to look for before I finalize this deal? All infos will be gladly appreciated, thanx alot guys!

Rev it up fast, then let off. If the blow off valve kicks in, and makes a "pssst" sound, you know you have boost. There also might be a stock boost gauge.

Turbos usually will go before the engine, but don't really need to be maintained per say.

Great forum for the 2.2 turbos:

You should be able to hear the turbo spin up under WOT. The big thing on them is change oil every 2,000 miles and to give the turbo time to spin down before turning off the motor. Other wise you coke the oil and burn up the turbo early. Talk to King Winky- Matt when he comes back from fishing next week. He knows a fair amount about them and sites to go too.
